Good article, TBF. You'd like to think the ALP are listening, but I dare say they're stuck with him now.

Yeah, they really showed that in their first 18 months. Shocked

Yep, the reality of the most shambolic and internationally farcical term in office in recorded history is already forgotten.

The Libs are better managers. The Libs are better managers. The Libs are better managers. The Libs are better managers. The Libs are better managers. The Libs are better managers. The Libs are better managers. The Libs are better managers. The Libs are better managers. The Libs are better managers. The Libs are better managers. The Libs are better managers. Nonetheless, back to the main task of getting rid of both the flaky airhead in office, and the hollow man in opposition.

The last 15 years of Australian politics has been a complete joke.

This is stating the most obvious. The ALP cannot get rid of Shorten, he has to step down.

Nope. I think you've read it all wrong. Labor had Abbott's Liberals on the ropes. They were a certainty.

Trouble is, the Liberals only had to dump Abbott and switch to Turnbull to jo-jitsu back into power, and Labor knew it. Their worst fear was that they would lose their greatest asset (Abbott as PM) without ever getting to smash him at an election.

Labor is running dead. Deliberately. They want Abbott locked in as Liberal leader. And note: even without any campaigning at all, even running dead, even tanking like Carlton Labor is still ahed in te polls. When the real campaign begins, Abbott is roadkill.

Yes, it is still a long way out.

And if Shorten is a sterile nothingness, Abbott is a festering bacterial infection.

But Australians are fine with that if he beats up those evil brown people.

Not overly surprising. Nothing gets the two major parties in a state of excitement like a bit of Internet filtering.

Yeah, dunno. People have funny memories.

The 1st Lib budget sucked, this one was innocuous, expect the next to be an election budget. By the time they get to the election people will be sitting back saying that the doom and gloom that was supposed to happen under Liberal hasn't happened etc etc. In other words will there be a compelling reason for enough people to change the government based on the Libs performance? Hmmmmm

Flip it over to Shorten. Expect a Lib campaign focusing on Labors changing leaders and pictorials of Shorten with blood on his hands every time. The Libs will focus on stability having not succumbed to changing leaders and push the old "If you can't govern yourself...." line

The small target/ Bradbury strategy will only work to a point. If Labor don't run into the election with a positive campaign, they're the ones who're roadkill.

The book to copy is Andrews not Abbott.

Yep, Stui, I agree, at least in broad. Labor should keep strictly to the defensive small target strategy for the time being.

The time to flip it over and go onto the offensive is 3-6 months out from the election. They need to do it early enough to get traction, but late enough to make sure that it's Abbott they have to beat, not Turnbull or Bishop or Morrison. (Or indeed any new face: new faces are aways popular for a short while.) As always in politics, good timing will be critical. (And just as critical for the Liberals, but that's another topic.)

There must be a major panic over at ALP headquarters, because they've pulled out the old "Herald Sun interview with wife" ploy.

A must-read for anyone not looking for major insight into Bill Shorten's non-personality.

I know what you mean, but that's sadly the second best time to flip it over. The best time is to go hard early to break the back of the old racist Howard cycle, survive the realignment to decency and return to policy platform focus, then recover gradually as it becomes obvious you're the only one with a clue how to generate paying jobs and a sense of future well-being who actually cares about the country.

But not to be.

More ringing endorsements for Shorten from within Labor.

FORMER NSW treasurer and union boss Michael Costa has pulled his support for Bill Shorten, warning his leadership is “terminal” and that the opposition leader is Australia’s Ed Miliband.

Please tell me this isn't about Shorten's support for a same-sex marriage vote.

Michael Costa wrote:
“Special-interest politics has pushed Labor further and further away from the political centre. The Labor left now firmly controls Labor’s policy agenda. Despite numerous warnings about the political folly in competing with the Greens on left-wing special-interest vote buying, Labor continues to sacrifice its economic credentials in the broader electorate for the diminishing hope that it can maintain its presence in the inner city.”

Yep. That's the problem. Bill Shorten is just too left-wing. Shocked
