Post subject: Jake Kelly and James Stewart regrets? | |
|
Hindsight is a wonderful thing we all know however it's seeming like a Hine error in not Rookie listing Kelly at 2013 Draft as he is flourishing with the Crows defence plus James Stewart's speed, agility and game sense makes the decision to go with the Jackson Ramsay 2nd round pick slightly contentious.
Yes Ramsay has some upside but it's not like we are under-resourced in the half back line department. _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum |

Oh beaut, something new and interesting to discuss...
You lament that we didn't list Kelly then in the same breath bemoan the fact that we took Ramsay over Stewart because we're overly endowed with HBFers...
And all this based on a few kids who haven't even played 10 games yet...
And all this after Hine has clearly said they didn't list Stewart as a F/S purely and simply because they wanted flexibility going into the trade period... |

Ramsey's selection may have been contentious at the time, but you only have to look at how his recent injury has hurt our defence to realise that this kid will be a great player. If we could go back in time and get Stewart instead of him I'd still be inclined to get Ramsay at this point. Kid is a gun.
As for Kelly? Good luck to him, but he's not exactly the best list fit for us at this point. Happy enough with Langdon/Ramsay/Scharenberg/Maynard/Seedsman/Oxley |

^^^ and the reality is we may well have taken Stewart at that pick if he was still available.
Agree on Kelly. Kid showed a bit at VFL level and would have been nice to see a son of Ned on our list however the decision was to retain Gault who we'd committed to. |

Indeed. And the most wonderful thing of all about hindsight is that some people are able to benefit from it and still be wrong. As a rule I like your posts, inxs88, but (hindsight or no hindsight) this one is a bit of a shocker.
Not to worry, even Bradman nicked one now and then. _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |

I think Stewart is developing really well and would have liked him on the list. Hed probably find his way into whites role as a can ruck if required.
Ramsay though was a very young bottom aged player at the time. He has huge up-side and I don't have a problem with him instead. _________________ "Even when Im old and gray, I wont be able to play but Ill still love the game"

What have Stewart's performances been like this season?

Please don't bring up Liam Picken......

It's one thing to bring up these "if only we'd picked..." threads when one player has clearly achieved more than another. But I don't think anyone could be disappointed in Ramsay based on what he's shown this season.
Considering how many draftees fail to live up to their potential (if they even make the grade at all), let's just be thankful we picked a good one. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace

It's like Groundhog Day: about once a month someone starts this thread anew.
The only one I regret is not taking Pavlich. All the rest is a matter of minor nuance. |

Hindsight, yes, if Hitler had not invaded Russia, he wouild have won WW2 for sure. Did the hapless Tigers get value outa Tambling, ahead of Buddy ?? Did the scum get more from Murphy than Pendles ?? (or was it daisy, when daisy was a real star ?). Cant blame Hine really, all clubs make recruiting errors, the trick is, dont keep on and on making em !! _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

Tannin. I like your reply! I guess I did preface the post with the disclaimer "in hindsight" to give myself a small out. I guess the post was aimed to generate discussion and opinion. Hopefully I succeeded in that. cheers _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum |
