Also remember that gaming companies have taken over from the old tobacco and beer companies and are now among the biggest sponsors of not only AFL teams, but the AFL itself. And the AFL is the employer of the umpires.
How did the Australian Crime Commission describe the three stages leading to corruption in sport? - "associate, infiltrate, manipulate". |

The real money is in sports betting. |
Sort of. The really big money is made by the gaming companies when a hot favourite, like Collingwood, loses.
The bookies made millions when Collingwood lost. More so than usual because Collingwood has the most followers and therefore the most people likely to back them to win, particularly against a low performing Richmond.
So if anybody were to get a brown paper bag, it would be coming from a bookie company. |
Yeah I hear that. Especially about how betting on the Pies is pretty inefficient due to how many of our fans like a punt and like to get behind us. It follows that the opposite is true. The odds, over time, reward you betting against us, especially if you can tilt them further your way.
So I wouldn't be surprised if there are a few "colourful identities" involved as well. There was plenty of talk in the last few months about how players can become compromised from criminal syndicates. Would umpires be immune from bribery and blackmail? If I was a crook, then knowing how protected umpires are from media and other public scrutiny, then they would be my prime target. |

He might be more of a cheat than Stevic. It's like they let some tubby middle aged loser who writes hate letters about the pies to the newspaper opinion columns and they let him loose with a whistle on the ground. _________________ "Are you an angry man? No No No! The umpires didn't cost us the game , we lost it because we played like a bottom eight side. Lets face it, we are always the brides maid team. Never quiet able to catch the flowers. Our effort on sunday was weak and piss hiss. Ninethmond beat us in the skills and mental game. For you to blame the umpires is equally piss weak. Face reality for once and accept we are shizzenhousen. _________________ I love this club and I hold anyone in contempt who does not think it is worth fighting for. |

nope your wrong.
boys against men, and the kids kept fighting, but when the opposition is getting a free run, and our goal kicker is not getting paid the frees he should and you lose by 5 $£$%^%%$ points, then yes the umpire cost us that game.
this team is playing with a determination i havent seen since 2010. maybe you should jump off the wagon, till the wheels are all fully screwed back on!

^ spot on think positive, Think about the 2002 granny where Tarrant was robbed of at least two frees and Lynch got one in front of the sticks for similar actions! Umps cost us dearly in the ultimate game! There is also the saying that frees even out during the duration of a game, Bull - dust! Schmidt and Stevich are two umpires that constantly see things in favour of our opponents! |

Been acknowledged in the past and yet nothing appears to be done to redress the issue. I'd rather they fix it than habitually acknowledge it. |

Actually age and games played averages for the 2 teams almost identical although we did have an extra 1-2 in the <50 bracket. |
