As per the OP Geelong played a bash and crash first quarter from the get go, simply barnstomed everything at the ball and ball carrier and just about everything worked for them.

That's not to say that I blame bad luck for our loss it's simply an observation that they threw the kitchen sink at us and had the rub of the green and the bounce of the ball go their way all night.

One point though . . . I would love to take a season's video of both Hawkin's and Cloke's treatment by the umpires and chain the umps rep to a chair and force his eyelids open with matchsticks and force him to see what everyone else on the planet does.

There is one rule for most full forwards and another for Cloke.

On the plus side for us the Cats had immense momentum going into the second quarter but somehow our young side managed to dig deep and not only arrest that momentum but get some going back our way.

Good job.

As for perceptions, previous to that game we were percieved to be overacheiving and the Cats as under acheiving. That sort of thing can filter down to the playing group and the way the Cats came out breathing fire and brimstone I believe they knew they had a point to prove.

Doesn't change the facts though - upward versus downward expectations.
