It'll NEVER change. We just have to become so good the umps don't matter a hill of beans.

I don't care if everyone does it, and I don't care if it's technically "within the rules". Umpires need to start penalising it, or at least learn to ignore it. Dropping the knees is both dangerous and poor sportsmanship.

Not the umps' fault this time, but saw a St. Kilda player bury his head in his opponent's abdomen as he was being tackled this afternoon. The West Coast player was smart enough to keep his arms clear and the ump waved play on, but come on: how long is it going to be until the AFL stamps out this practice? It makes a farce of the entire high tackle rule if players are being trained to put themselves into positions where they are more likely to be injured and by and large being rewarded by umpires for doing so.

It's not about blaming the players, although I wish good sportsmanship still meant something. It's about reward and deterrent. Does the AFL want to protect players from injury or not? If they do, it's time to give free kicks against players who duck into contests.

It just means that some teams (us) have to play 110% or 120% better than their opponent in order to win. We played better than Richmond (although still not great) but we lost cause the umpires dead set cheated. I didn't think Clokes were the worst examples - one push in the back on Brown was a straight match for one up the other end but of course Richmond got the goal and we didn't, and Patty K (I think) was caught holding the ball when he was tackled during his shot on goal from 50 and the ball missed his foot, but the exact same thing down the other end is ignored and Richmond score - that's 24 point turn around there, thank you umpires, add Cloke's 2 points from his two scoring shots and we're 21 points up!

BUT the best one was Seedsmans deliberate out of bounds in our forward flank. He's one on one, he handballs the ball forward, then runs around his opponent aiming to collect the ball and run into a shot on goal. The ball bounces out of bounds before he can collect it. It's CLEARLY not deliberate out of bounds - the only player who wanted the ball to stay in was Seedsman, but the cheating umpires called it anyway. Bastards.

How much better would be look being 6-2 and third on the ladder right now. That game will cost us in the end, it may be the difference in this close season between playing finals and not. Bastard cheating scum. One day we'll actually win the free kick count at quarter time (when the momentum for the game is actually created) and we'll win by 200 points...

- Ben

They made a few mistakes today, but those went both ways. Those who are employed in footy as an industry don't see it through a club lens, especially, and umpires are no exception. They're also subject to scrutiny that'd make most workers wilt. No issue here, sorry.

Howler of the night - the no-free kick to Pendlebury in the first quarter with the little green maggot 29 looking right at the "contest."
Can't even call it a mistake it was so clear, and can't really come up with any conclusion other than that which has been put forward so many times about natural bias against us. Or it was just blatant cheating, 1 of the 2.

It was a shocker, yes, but so was the advantage paid to Blair , well after play had stopped, that resulted in our last goal of the second quarter. They make mistakes, because umpiring requires split-second interpretation of ambiguous situations. Some go our way and some go the other way, as far as I can see, amd most importantly, The team that controls the ball usually wins most of the iffy frees.
