What's the rate of pay like?

Even though Uber is supposedly cheaper, it seems that Uber drivers get more money probably because most cab owners take 50% or more of the fare off the driver
Friday & Saturday Nights clear around $1300 after fuel and Paypal and UBER Fees. Also you score cash jobs from referrals.

Not bad coin Shocked

Pretty sure Cab drivers would get nothing like that which proves the system needs a massive overhaul.

I agree and in saying that, the feedback I get is on these lines, Clean Car, You Speak English & You Know where you are going. Compare that to Taxi's. You pay peanuts you do get Monkey's. Politicians excluded.

Uber is now legal in NSW.

Quote:
PRESSURE is mounting on the Queensland government to legalise the controversial ride-sharing service UberX as Western Australia looks set to become the third Australian jurisdiction to do so.
The WA government flagged its intention to make UberX legal as part of sweeping reforms to the taxi sector announced today.
It follows the service being legalised in NSW yesterday and the ACT in October.
Now Queenslanders are taking to social media to call on their government to green-light UberX there, too, egged on by the ride-sharing company.

http://www.news.com.au/finance/business/travel/queenslanders-call-for-uberx-to-be-made-legal-after-nsw-decision/news-story/f60907e0489505ead26f4611cd8e19d0

Victory for common sense?

Quote:
Under the new laws announced in NSW yesterday, UberX drivers will have to pay a $45 licence fee, undergo criminal checks and have their cars checked for safety after premier Mike Baird decided to regulate the online service.
A $250 million adjustment package will also be established to compensate taxi and hire car licence plate owners.

You know, the more I think about this, the more I'm on the side of Uber. I felt bad for taxi drivers losing their jobs, but at the end of the day nothing's stopping them from jumping ship and joining the new company. We shouldn't be afraid of innovative competition.

Who said they already hadn't?

Quote:
MELBOURNE’S cabbies are moonlighting as Uber drivers as the city’s love affair with the illegal service continues to grow.

The Sunday Herald Sun can reveal Melbourne has more Uber drivers than any other city in Australia — and one in five is also a taxi driver.

^ Yeah, that's what I meant. I gave it a try yesterday and the guy behind the wheel was a former taxi driver. Sounds like a good choice on his part from what I can tell.

It was fun and paid the bills but I have given it away. Every second driver is an Uber now.

Don't know much about Uber, but their surge pricing sounds like a rip off.

You have to agree to the price surge twice, the app warns you about it, bit rich to complain about something you agreed to at the time.

If the price surge is too high, you wait for it to go down or call a taxi instead.

Yes but does it show the actual cost when you agree to it? A lot of folk using it are doing so because they don't want to drink and drive, not sure they could do the math drunk!

Yeah, it shows how much the trip will cost but if you're off your face I doubt you'll pay attention. Laughing
