Why you shouldn't believe everything you read (particularly if it's published by a British tabloid):

One sensational story about New Years Eve attacks by migrants in Frankfurt was published by the newspaper Bild and picked up by the Daily Express and Daily Telegraph before Bild apologised for publishing a fake story.

That story also appeared on the map, before being taken down. But unlike fabricated stories which can be easily fact-checked, the refugee crime maps main business is slick distortion of reality, which is much harder to track. In the more strictly policed media environment of Germany, fake news has apparently taken on more sophisticated forms.

What's the world coming to if you can't believe mainstream media ?

Fixed that for you. Wink Razz

Ha ha. That ain't closing the deal by any stretch

In case you missed it.

Even the Muslims know the Muslims are bad news. Shocked

Funded by taxpayers, of course...

Good to see that, twenty years after Frontline turned them into a laughing stock, shows like Today Tonight haven't changed a bit. Still scaremongering, race-baiting and presenting grotesque simplifications; now with added Imam on board to 'confirm' their mouth-breathing viewers' worst fears that the Muslims are coming to get us, and (gasp) Mickey Mouse too (cue scary music)!

It's all so transparently dumb that an intelligent 8-year-old could see through it, but unfortunately too many people lack basic critical skills and get sucked in hook, line and sinker. How do these journalists sleep at night?

The great thing about grotesque simplifications is that they appeal to grotesquely simple minds:

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/feb/23/north-carolina-islamophobia-muslims-threats

Near the end of the presentation, Del Valle asked Jones: Do you have any recommendations as to how we could stop this? Because my only recommendation is to start killing the hell out of them.

Goodwill attempted to steer the discussion away from violence, noting that the election of Donald Trump was a positive development for their cause.

Theres a huge pushback coming, Goodwill said. Political correctness is being thrown away. A lot of people are meeting like this. Were making progress in the positive direction.

I am beyond that point, Del Valle replied. Im ready to start taking people out.

Yes, boys and girls, political correctness is certainly being thrown away.

Winston-Salem

So unlike Salem MA which was famous for the witch trials and a steven king novel, this version in NC has it's claim to fame a very intolerant Cuban immigrant jazz musician.

The anti PC push has been building for a while. It won't make a hell of a lot of difference to the middle ground just means the number of ratbags on each extreme is evening up

It's interesting, though, to note how the "end to political correctness" rhetoric is being adopted by the extreme right ratbagerry to justify, well, basically anything.

For the record, I do not accept that there is any serious left in the US that poses any threat to anybody, ever, at all. That's because the so-called "left" in the US is the Democrats, which is just, by and large, a slightly less distasteful form of Thatcherism. There isn't any serious left at all, there. The guys on the extreme right, however, are very dangerous.

Let's be clear about this - the people who are protesting against Trump are not the "left" - they are just, for the most part, annoyed middle-class folk who would, in the 1960s, have voted for JFK, sung Weavers songs and been a little concerned when Bob plugged in for Highway 61 Revisited. They are very unhappy about the turn of events in their country and they'd like it to have an actual, rather than merely putative, President but none of them is about to man the barricades to fight (or probably even to sing songs from Les Mis).

There is no "extreme" opposition to Trump - there are just a few people who think that they didn't learn to read and write and how to mark their vote cards to get served up this tripe.

I'd disagree with that assessment.

no doubt there's a bunch of middle class democrats peeved that they didn't get what the media promised them, but there is also a "left". The SJW's started there and it starts with the younger university educated demographic along with the professional protesters, same as here.

They may not be genuinely socially left, just compared to middle ground USA they are an extreme.

unfortunately what we would consider the far right extreme in the USA aren't actually that extreme over there. I guess, like anything, where the extremes are depends on your centre.

^^^ So, I'd be an extreme leftist in the US on that view. I think that, right there, gives a hint about which orifice that sort of relativist argument leads your head into.
