Joys last start was a flop. She didn't jump and wouldn't stretch out in running. The jockey said he thought there was a problem with her legs.
We had the vet check her out and the legs are fine. What he did find was that she was riddled with stomach ulcers (common in racehorses apparently).
We've sorted that out and she had a trial last week. She jumped well and showed a bit of her finishing burst without pushing her too hard.
She gets another chance on Wednesday in the last race at Belmont (4:45pm WST).

I know if she puts it together she's more than capable of a forward showing. Fingers crossed! happy punting.

Cheers Culprit. Been a fair bit of rain in Perth. She had 2 starts on heavy going in Victoria and although she didn't run anywhere, she handled the heavy tracks ok. Only weighs about 450kg (under 16 hands tall) so hopefully she gets across the ground ok.

Good read thanks TP.
The stable where she is now, there's only 4 horses, has never had an issue with ulcers in the horses. They're fed more in the way described at the end of that article.

Long distance travel, like Joys, from Qld to WA, can cause ulcers. We're guessing she got them then.

She's well looked after and thinks she's the queen of the stable.

That's good to hear, hopefully they have it sorted, cheers

What got me when she arrived here in WA back in January was that she didn't know what a carrot was. When we gave her one she wouldn't take it and just looked at it on the ground. She was in a stable of around 50 horses in Qld, just a number. She was also real flighty & jumpy. Loves them now and as well as the ones she gets in her feed, I give her one every time I visit the stable.

I've had a couple of slow racehorses before TP and made sure they went to good homes. My old favourite, Manhattan Jack, is now 11 and loving life as a Trail horse, he took to it like a duck to water. I still see him at the farriers every now and then and give the old boy a hug. He ran a 3rd at Northam once and paid $10 for the place. A gorgeous horse, just not a fast one.

There's more good people in the thoroughbred industry than bad.

Did you say this is her next race, Skids? Wednesday in the last race at Belmont (4:45pm WST).

Good luck old chap; hope she does well.

I bloody hope so!

Had an ex pacer for a while, and I've ridden a couple of ex race horses. Good to see some get a life, still to many end up at the knackers.

Really glad to hear you obviously care beyond the dollar Smile

I'm on at $67 and all up each way with my Nephew's Horse. Race 1 Bendigo #11 Purple Pride. It's yet to win as well but has the breeding. My outlay today is $30. Result can be $0.00 Upwards Shocked

The Nephew's Horse is still running as is skids. $30 down. That's gambling.

I watched the race skids. The Jockey did everything right, I felt it was a bit outclassed in that race.

Cheers mate, I only heard it on the radio (up at work now).
She was blowing a bit afterwards. Needed the run. A few of the other owners are getting a bit impatient. We'll give her another run and if she doesn't show a bit more we have a trainer up in Geraldton who's keen to take her on. Their season starts in October.

If that fails TP, a chick at work has jumpers and she's keen to take her, she lives her too 😊

JOY is in Geraldton and enjoying some beach and bush work. Will be ready for the season opener on the 11th of October.

I've got a small share in another one going around tomorrow at Warwick in Qld. Invitto is her name. Her first start and she should go close. Race 2 number 13.
