Defender makes a good point about playing a half baked sub, cos if someone goes down in the first quarter, you will be down two in at least the last quarter.
Also agree with 35 forever. Been saying for years we need someone like Lloyd full time, and God yes, we sure need a kicking coach! _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

Bingo! The way he leans back when he kicks the ball from close range is frustrating to witness. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023 | |

How hard is it to keep your head over the ball? I mean really? We all grew up watching Lockett kick, everyone should at least know the basics, straight shoulders, head over the ball.....
They all play bloody golf don't they? Same rules apply Bruce, same rules apply _________________ "The last thing he expected WAS THE FIRST THING HE GOT!!!!!"

No, we didn't. A lot of us grew up watching McKenna kick. |

I watched a clip on the Collingwood website of Collingwood beating Geelong by 86 points in 2008.
Travis Cloke kicked 4 goals, I think.
At one point Bruce McAveny remarked how accurately Cloke had been kicking (especially from set shots) that year.
So far as I can recall, Cloke was a reasonable kick for goal in his early years, but then his kicking for goal on set shots deteriorated.
I wonder why this happened, and why it can't be corrected. |

I'm over this shit. Last few games he's missed absolute sitter he should kick in his sleep. The money he is paid, HE should be actively finding the help he needs. Yes, he gets raped by the umpires week in week out, but when he's lining up, he should be kicking those easy ones. He missed one a couple of weeks ago I could have kick half pissed in my high heels.
We had 4 senior players and one rising star missing shots that should have been a walk in the park. Cloke 2, Pendles 1, white 1, swanny 1, Jamie 1, that's 6 goals! And the final margin was?
But**** it, seriously, get someone in there to show em how to kick straight. 30 metre kicks to two sticks how many metres apart? Should be a fricken walk in the park for full time paid athletes. Not good enough. _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

I watched him kick footballs with his brothers before he was a teenager while his old man was destroying opposition ruckman and anyone else who came near him when playing for ainslie. He would clearly kick the ball as all kids do by throwing it up into the air then follow through with a bent knee. Fast forward 20 years later and I somehow feel like I'm still there watching this kid kick a footy. _________________ no second chances |

I still stand by my analysis that is ignored plus I'll repeat - you have to understand "what your are doing" to apply "what you need to do" to give yourself a better goal return.
Everyone at the club has had a go or a say about Cloke's kicking. Carey said that even a psychologist has been involved. I guess everyone except me.
I still welcome the challenge. _________________ COLLINGW09D |

Bruce was quoting how well Cloke was kicking that year because it was the first year he kicked more goals than points.
2006: 6 goals - 12 points
2007: 39 goals - 39 points
2008: 40 goals - 25 points
2009: 22 goals - 26 points
2010: 38 goals - 40 points
2011: 69 goals - 48 points
2012: 59 goals - 34 points
2013: 68 goals - 51 points
What is more damning was when one of the footy show's recently stated that one in 5.4 of Clokes shot on goal is out on the full.
If this is true and I hope it is not, then his conversion rate each year:
2006 - 27.2%
2007 - 42.4%
2008 - 51.9%
2009 - 38.5%
2010 - 41.3%
2011 - 49.6%
2012 - 53.6%
2013 - 48.2%
2014 - 48.1%
Overall average: 46.9% |

Actually his old man had a really odd kicking action, too, iirc..... _________________ Two more flags before I die! |

True - but he was quite accurate once he got it going as his career developed (he was woeful when he started - I remember that Hafey left Phil Manassa on him at CHB one day at Victoria Park because it actually didn't matter how many times Clokey got it, he wasn't going to do much damage kicking at goal). |

I think he should hold the ball sideways whenever he is within 20 metres of goal. Bigger margin of error through greater contact area between boot and ball. Know what I mean? _________________ http://youtu.be/hvtdbfI1sqQ |

Probably an extreme measure but would dropping him help? After all poor kicking is poor form, why should he be immune? I know that leaves a massive hole in our 'structure' but at the same time it might help wean off our reliance. We need to start looking at other avenues, I'm sick of him breaking our hearts! _________________ Formally frankiboy and FrankieGoesToCollingwood. |
