The forward line was truly horrible.
Why are we playing Moore in defence?
They slingshot us on a number of occasions
Same as the seniors with our kicking skills below par.
PK and Young and Marsh and De Goey in our best today.
The Fas is one of the most mentally lazy players you could
ever see.
Cox had no idea today.
He took one good mark and his only hope is to be a
marking forward because his ruck work is poor.
I don't know where we are going to get another KPP if one goes down
in the seniors.

That was ordinary.
Marsh continues to develop, a 2015 debut not beyond the realms of possibility.
De Goey was solid.
Karnezis was steady and used the ball very well.
Moore's injury a real blow for the kid, hopefully it's not too bad but he grabbed high which is generally not a positive thing.
Grooming some real hard nuts but it looks like it'll take some time develop the flow that's missing at the moment. |

Woefully amateur management, he's how tall? and he has to race Hardingham on the turnaround FMD.
Both Cox and Witts very poor, thank fook we have Grundy because these 2 look like they ingest spaz tablets.
De Goey the only real positive for mine.
Looking at our backup we are years and years and years away. |

Marsh certainly seems to have improved his kicking and really has a crack.
I wonder if we'll ever see him moved up the ground as a more attacking option where he is free to play with a bit more flair.
I'd like to see how he goes forward now he has developed.
We have a number of defensive options in the senior team already so it'll be hard to break into the team at that end of the ground.

He looks assured with the ball. I thought that he did well, given the circumstances. I am pleased with his progress. The problem with days like today is that it is difficult to see what they can learn from this game. Sigh....
It is such a pity about Moore. He was caught out a couple of times when he left his man but his looks so comfortable on the ball that I think that it is only a matter of time before he steps up. Let's hope he uses his time off to bulk up a bit. He looks like he needs to put on a few kilos. |

He can attack the ball and run and carry.
This is what is needed in football 2015.
Good argument about moving him up the ground.

we were a few percent off with our disposal. do it often enough and it adds up. we won our share of the contested ball and had a large number of inside 50s. effort couldn't be faulted. it looks like we need to work on our cohesion and this will take time given the new faces we have at afl and vfl level. we made them look good too often.

| There is a general lack of quality in the players that are on the park from the VFL list. We don't seem to have covered the losses of, eg, Couch, KMart and Lachie F, all of whom were solid contributors at this level. |

I'm glad someone else has noticed this.
Martin in particular is a huge loss.
But you can also throw in all of Lynch, Hudson, Ball and Maxwell as well. Huge loss of experience cutting into our mature depth. Makes the VFL team vulnerable to a few top-end injuries (as we've seen with Levi/Steele/Reid and even Sinclair). The likes of Dwyer/Oxley/Crisp/Gault/Ramsay should all be running around in the VFL. Thomas and Keeffe's situation hasn't helped either, could have used them out there today...
And yes, guys like Couch/Ferguson/Riddle were very handy players as well. Hellier out injured (?) didn't help either.
Long year ahead, I suspect.

I'll be curious to see the Inside 50 stats tomorrow, JW. Felt very much like the elim final again: no real marking talls to kick to, runners having to scrap goals. And like that final, Karnezis would have been very handy to have as a target in that forward line, instead of up the other end of the ground...

When Kosh and I left, the 5-man forward line consisted of PK, Fas and three VFL list players, of whom Still was the biggest (and too slight, even so). There was no marking target at all. |

we were a few percent off with our disposal. do it often enough and it adds up. we won our share of the contested ball and had a large number of inside 50s. effort couldn't be faulted. it looks like we need to work on our cohesion and this will take time given the new faces we have at afl and vfl level. we made them look good too often. |
By my rough count 13-14 players fronting up for this team for the first time in 2015. Preseason can only do so much to bring them together as a team and that's what is so obvious watching them play. Will take time.
Would be nice if we'd recruited a couple of genuine KPP types as we're getting shown up in that area. |

No wonder I wanted Moore playing forward.
Our forward line talls are very vanilla and we seem light on for key position options and with Moore now joining Keeffe on the sidelines we are going to be stretched in this area.
Why did we lose so much quality off our VFL list in the off season?
Did they leave for more money, opportunity or lifestyle choice?
Does the VFL list have a salary cap?

All 3 of those reasons.
And yes, there is a salary cap. From memory, it's about $300,000.
