Pulled his quad while rolling over in bed sometime between Thursday night and this morning.
Shouldn't have tucked the sheets in so tight I guess. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

my logic is that because we have a vfl bye next week that another couple of weeks' rest will leave him no worse off. then, after the bye, he can get a good run of games into him leading up to the afl bye then start looking to play afl games after that. _________________ Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle. |

Lee Walker is to be promoted off the rookie list along with Butch Edwards.
Their bodies are 100% cherry ripe with their extended stays on the long term injury list, sadly Reid is a ways behind them. |

It does sound like smart (if overly cautious) management if true but eventually the club will have to take a punt on Ben to see if his body can stand up to the rigours of any football anymore.
Extended stints on the sideline are fine if he can come back fit and raring to go but so far he's had long outs then limited VFL time and broken down almost straight away. The softly, softly approach doesn't look to be working that well either. |

Exactly. He's just as likely to knick a quad while being cotton woolled at training. Or even making his toast. _________________ "The night is a very dark time for me" Chaz Michael Michaels |

I've given up on Reid. If he fully recovers and regains the form that we know he can produce then I'll be ecstatic but I'm not counting on it sadly.
The absence of Reid has killed us in the last two years. It's amazing that our defence has held up well without him but if we pursued the option of playing Reid up forward then it would have greatly benefited someone like Jesse White in not having the responsibility as the second tall behind Cloke. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023 | |

To be honest, JW, I did go into this game wondering why we would play Reid a week before a scheduled bye. Just seemed to be no point in it, given the amount of football he has to catch up on and how a bye would interrupt any momentum he might build, unless we wanted him for the Gold Coast trip, but again, he's missed so much footy, so why bother?
Even with your scenario, he only has 3 games in between byes to build fitness. Is that really enough match time for him? _________________ I am vengeance. I am the night. I am MagpieBat. |

I have had some real concerns for both Reid and Brown for quite some time. Fortunately the most recent operation on Brown's shoulder seems to be successful and he has now played his 100th game and seems to be more than holding his own at AFL level. It is great to see him back in our ranks.
My concerns have only been reinforced for Ben Reid and whilst I am not willing to put him in the "cooked" section he does not seem to be able to overcome his injuries. Previous to the 2014 season he was our great tall hope for our forward line. It would seem that this is more wishful thinking as the seasons and weeks roll on. With a fully fit and mobile Ben Reid we would be a better team.
