Post subject: Is Darcy Moore ready ? Forward or back in AFL ? | |
|
After three very good performances in the VFL, albeit two of them in VFL practice matches, is Darcy Moore ready for the big time ?
Although spending his TAC days as a forward, he now finds himself being trialled as a key defender this season to date.
Its a big step up and there is a lot to learn about team structures and positional plays in the AFL but he cant do much more in the short time he has been at the club.
So the question remains, is he ready now and if he is, where does he play and who goes out ??
For mine, Im happy to leave him to do his apprenticeship for a few more weeks yet.
I also see him coming in as a defender rather than a forward, simply because that's where he is spending his time in the VFL.
Your thoughts fellow nicksters ?? |

He spent many weeks playing forward at U18 level and going by the few who say him play at that level played his most eye catching football up that end.
It's not like he would have forgotten how to play forward and given his natural talent, mobility and competitive attitude hard not to see him going close to at least matching the output of Gault or White from last week as the third tall forward option.
If he was to play forward at this early stage of his development at AFL level then that is the role you'd want him in.
If he doesn't play this week it's not the end of the world, it will probably give Gault another opportunity (assuming Witts doesn't take his spot) which would be good to watch and given we play the scum in a big match the following week a debut against them would be just as good if it occurred. _________________ He's mad. He looked good on Sunday but is a long way (months or maybe a season) from playing senior footy. |

as 1 of the Key Postion Player he is a year or 2 away from playing that Role but as a 3rd/Loose tall he could do that Quite Well. Even put him on a Wing _________________ I am Da Man |

I'd like him groomed as Cloke's successor. Look at the price paid for Tom Boyd (and Travis, Buddy, Hawkins etc). Good Key forwards are higly valued. _________________ One team, one dream - the Pies and this year's premiership |

Pretty amazing how he isn't being groomed as a forward. Not that it hasn't been said enough, but if realisticly we plan on a flag in 2-3 years time, that brings Cloke to 30 - past his most effective days as the main man in attack. Unless we plan on relying on Elliott and Gault, or buying a key forward in the near future, Darcy NEEDS to learn to play forward right now. How many agile/extremely athletic 200cm forwards are there? |

There is a Reason but the Club has been very quiet about it though _________________ I am Da Man |

^Cryptic Dave.
Perhaps we are trying to get him to learn the craft of playing forward by showing him a year playing on guys and working out body position at the same time making it easier to win possession and just stream forward rather than out for a lead and back toward goals?
Unusual to make this choice as the Club has said the intent is to play Ben Reid back again, at least initially, once he returns. _________________ One team, one dream - the Pies and this year's premiership |

Won't play forward in AFL until he plays forward in VFL. Don't know why anyone would suggest otherwise. |
