No, they're quite soft. Also lost badly to a team below them.

I have had a crack at the form ladder.

I have tried to address the criticism made against Collingwood that we have not beaten anyone outside of the bottom 8 (until today against GWS... Go Pies!).

Beat a team ABOVE you on the ladder = 1.5
Beat a team BELOW you on the ladder = 1.0
Lose a team ABOVE you on the ladder = -1.0
Lose a team BELOW you on the ladder = -1.5

I used this ladder to calculate where each team was on the ladder at the end of each round: http://finalsiren.com/AFLLadder.asp?AFLLadderTypeID=2&SeasonID=2015&Round=1-1

This data is from the end of Round 10 so it does not take into consideration the Pies win today against GWS (if I did Collingwood would jump up to 5th). Will wait until the end of Round 12 when each team has played the same number of games.

Club TOTAL
1. Fremantle 7
2. Sydney 5
3. West Coast 5
4. GWS 4.5
5. Richmond 3.5
6. Collingwood 3
7. Geelong 3
8. Port Adelaide 2.5
9. North Melbourne 2
10. Hawthorn 1
11. Adelaide 0.5
12. Western Bulldogs 0
13. Essendon -1
14. St Kilda -3
15. Brisbane -4.5
16. Melbourne -6
17. Carlton -7
18. Gold Coast -7.5

Has Freo beaten someone above them on the ladder this year? Razz

Very Happy Yes they have. In Round 4 Fremantle beat Sydney 74-60. At the time Sydney was 2nd, and Fremantle 3rd.

Round 11

1. Fremantle
2. Sydney
3. West Coast
4. Hawthorn
5. Collingwood
6. Geelong
7. Richmond
8. Adelaide

9. GWS
10. Western Bulldogs
11. Port Adelaide
12. North Melbourne
13. Essendon
14. St. Kilda
15. Melbourne
16. Gold Coast
17. Brisbane
18. Carlton

The positions from 5-12 were really difficult to work out. I tried a system where I assigned points based on positions – whether they were playing top 4 teams, each other or the bottom 6 – and margins. What surprised me was how high we ended up and that Port and North were so low. Otherwise, I think this is about right.

how the fook can you have richmond at 7th? they beat freo at freo's home ground. they didn't just beat them, they pretty much dismantled them in that first quarter. they have also had some solid wins on the trot.

freo, in the last two weeks, has lost to richmond and narrowly beat a team on the bottom of the ladder. that's not being a form team in my book and provides evidence to the folly of your ladder.

Pretty good chance the teams in the top 4 of your form ladder will be top 4 at the end of the season.

Most likely that'll be the top 8 also.

Positions to vary.

^^^ Provided Hawthorn can beat a team in the actual top 8, they have some potential to "be a real threat this year". So far, they've beaten 9th, 11th, 12th, 15th, 17th and 14th and lost to 10th, 13th, 2nd and 5th.

If Collingwood was going that badly, there'd be a significant groundswell calling for Buckley to be sacked.

Hawthorn have the "difficult" part of their draw coming up over the next little while. The question does have to be asked, though - after winning the last 2 flags, how the f$%# do they get to play the Blooz and Essendon each twice? Shouldn't they be playing Sydney, North, Port, Freo and Geelong twice?

lmao. How many times do we have to have this argument? Let's just concede that we're taking two different approaches to this exercise and leave it at that.

Under my approach, the Richmond that beat Fremantle is the same Richmond that lost to Melbourne, North and the Western Bulldogs. Likewise, Freo have been poor these past two weeks, but they were so far ahead of the pack that they can afford a hiccup. As good as they've been, none of the three teams directly below them have made a compelling case why they should be at the top of the table.

Can you lose to Melbourne easily at your home ground and still be 6th?

^looks pretty good on the whole Jezza.

Problem is reacting to one game. Cats carved us up, yet looked so insipid against the Dees on the weekend, who we overcame just a couple of weeks ago.

This. North will be back in the eight soon and probably stay there.

I have a feeling we're underrating North. They've had a few embarrassing losses, but have generally performed well against other teams in the 5-12 category, and they've beaten a top four team (West Coast). Like you, I think they're more likely to play finals than, say, Geelong, the Bulldogs or GWS.
