Hmmm, maybe it's an OUT of form ladder ie: 12th beat 2nd, 15th beat 5th, 9th beat 3rd & 11th beat 8th.
Can't wait for the round 6 update🐰🐸 |
There were a lot of upsets this round by anyone's reckoning. Will definitely affect the placings this week.
I'll post it over the next day or two. Feel free to have a go in the meantime.
Rudeboy, I don't find percentage any more reliable—obviously you'd expect a team who's played St. Kilda, Carlton and Brisbane, Essendon, Geelong and Adelaide to have a superior percentage to a team like Port that's played all top 8 contenders like Hawthorn, Fremantle, Sydney, North, Adelaide and West Coast. I don't think anyone would say we're a better team than Port right now. |
As more games are played percentage becomes much more reliable than wins or losses in terms of overall 'form'. But as I said previously, no 'form' giude can truly be accurate until everyone has played everyone once. Until then, all other attempts are mere approximations. For me I still find the percentage the best guide to overall form. Currently it reads:
Freo 151
Eagles 141
Hawks 136
Pies 127
Swans 126
Crows 118
Giants 104
Dogs 102
Tigers 102
Kangas 98
Port 95
Bombers 92
Cats 88
Saints 85
Suns 83
Dees 78
Blues 74
Lions 58 |

The Blooz form over the last 24 hours or so warrants a revised ladder. |

i still contend that's utter rot. there is little to no context wrapped around a team's percentage.
port have no form to speak of. giants have better form than we do. brisbane has been travelling better than carlton. _________________ Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle. |

I quite agree! Unfortunately, I've been too busy to do this over the last week or two. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Here we go, then:
Freo
West Coast
Sydney
Collingwood
GWS
Hawthorn
Geelong
Crows
Richmond
Footscray
Port
North
Essendon
Melbourne
St Kilda
GCS
Blooz
Bears
I'd have the Bears lower, if it were possible - any team that has a 7 goal to 2 first quarter against the 'Aints and then loses so poorly deserves to be coached by Brad Scott. Or Chris Scott. Or both of them.
Also, I think the Blooz are certainly bad enough to deserve a priority pick. In my universe, they will be compelled to use it on Jordan Russell. |

Collingwood has still only beaten teams from 12th down!
The North and Bomber wins appeared good at the time, but when viewing the actual current ladder, still isn't THAT impressive.
Go figure. |

Well we haven't lost a single game to a top 5 team yet either! |

Missed a few weeks, but I think this is a fairly accurate reflection of where things are at:
Round 9
1. Fremantle
2. West Coast
3. Sydney
4. Hawthorn
5. Adelaide
6. Western Bulldogs
7. GWS
8. Port Adelaide
9. Collingwood
10. North Melbourne
11. Geelong
12. Richmond
13. Essendon
14. St. Kilda
15. Melbourne
16. Brisbane
17. Gold Coast
18. Carlton
We're in a real logjam between 8th and 13th. Honestly, I was surprised I couldn't get Richmond or Essendon any higher, as I consider them both finals contenders. With the occasional exception of St. Kilda, the bottom five are so off the pace it's not funny (except for Carlton, whose fate is still pretty funny).
I doubt we'll be getting anywhere near the top four teams, but I reckon the teams in 5-8 could yet drop off. None of them are certain finals contenders by any means, and with more performances like yesterday's, we could easily take any of their places. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

i usually struggle to understand what your ladder has been based on but this week's is more confusing than normal. richmond is travelling better than port and north. we've dealt to teams we should have and lost narrowly to richmond and yesterday beat north. we are not the ninth best performed team right now. _________________ Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle. |

^ I'm basing this on the whole year's results, so Richmond's poor start to the year has to be taken into account. See the ladder Stui posted—it's really pretty similar to mine, with its positioning of Collingwood, Richmond and the Bulldogs the main exceptions. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Oh wow, I didn't even bother to look at the wins/losses column. What a logjam! Would certainly make for an exciting end to the season.
And when you throw GWS, Geelong and Essendon in, that's 9 teams fighting for 4 spots. I couldn't confidently predict that any of those will/won't make it. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |
