I think the idea that everyone in the side needs to be an elite kick is such a silly notion. These three guys were pretty bloody important for us today. did all the things that a good defensive unit should do.

Brown in particular is back to being a beautifully dour shut down defender (in the Presti mold).

Smart move to deploy Goldsack back there today. We looked a lot stronger with him back there

If those 3 defenders can replicate that form for most of the season then that will allow us to play Reid (when fit ) as the 3rd tall instead of Gualt.

I've probably bagged Goldsack more than anyone, but I tips me hat to him today. He'll always fumble a bit, but he was a rock in defence today and his long kicking was a great asset for us. He also took a couple of courageous marks. I've never questioned his commitment or courage - how could anyone - but the first 3 weeks he did not have much impact at all. He turned that around today and congratulations to him for that. I think with us playing 3 talls up forward he can be used predominantly in defence. Well done Goldy.

I've been a massive critic for a while now but this is how I expect them to perform, the weather conditions I believe also played in their hand, all they really had to do was stay close to their man...and they did it well......today.

Goldsack played his best game for the year but needs to get closer to that level more often.

I reckon Frost was sensational today. His judgement in the difficult conditions was spot on. IMO he saved a couple of certain goals where an Essendon player was a dead set certainty to mark until Frosty came in with a beautifully timed spoil without giving away a free kick. I thought he was just about B.O.G.
Brown and Goldsack were fantastic too.

Really ? To be honest, i have had williams in the gun.
I thought today was his best game since his debut year.
Its important to remember that the back six are all about striving to be one very well oiled machine. Its easy to say the individuals played well ( which they did ) but i think the individuals stood out because they all helped each other out so well.

Yes a very good point that you make. Our defence was a cohesive unit today

I agree they worked well as a back six, covered well for each other which gave the confidence to run off their direct opponent if they needed to.

Special mention to Goldsack - he put himself in danger a number of times yesterday. He had 5 intercept marks and a couple of those were scary brave.

^^
Great call on goldsack. He set the tone when it was on the line.
I think Goldy is a victim of his own flexibility. If he could just be left down there to spend all his time in defence, the back six could gel even better together.
