Quote: | As the war drew on, many groups like the CWA (Country Women's Association), church committees, schools and other women's organisations devoted a great deal of time to the making of ANZAC biscuits. To ensure that the biscuits remained crisp, they were packed in used tins such as Billy Tea tins. You can see some of these tins appearing in your supermarket as exact replicas of the ones of earlier years. Look around. The tins were airtight, thus no moisture in the atmosphere was able to soak into the biscuits and make them soft. |
Recipe in the link.
The CWA recipe was voted the best biscuit in a blind taste test conducted in NZ. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

I'm just glad nobody has had the temerity to select 'chocolate chip'. Still punishable as high treason, I believe. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

I'm happy for their to be a distinction between a cookie and a biscuit and both words to be used. A cookie is large, round and usually soft (not always) and tends to have a rough texture. A biscuit is like a Milk Arrowroot or Teddy Bear, having a fine texture. That's my take on how the language has evolved anyway.
As for Halal, if a company exports to Islamic countries then its 100% necessary for them to do business. I don't like the model of payments made to acquire certification but until a private enterprise wants to take on the Halal certification duties that's what we've got. (Or government I suppose *shudder*). |

Haha, you're probably right. I still call everything "biscuits", from chocolate chip cookies to water crackers. I suppose there comes a time when, whatever its origin, a word has entered sufficient popular usage that it can be considered "correct". The battle against Americanisms is always a losing one. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Matt's a good Collingwood man, leave him alone.
I never liked him or valued his opinion until I found that out, I now have most of his books and look forward to Masterchef.
