Quote:

Gold Coast midfielder Harley Bennell may find it difficult to keep himself at the club after reports have emerged he was charged by police for disorderly conduct in Surfers Paradise on the weekend.

The club is believed to have held crisis meetings regarding the 23-year-old's future after they became aware of the incident outside a night club.

He is alleged to have got into a physical altercation with a security guard outside the club and recorded a high blood-alcohol level reading.

A spokesperson for the Suns made a comment to the Gold Coast Bulletin about the matter.

“The club has just been informed of the matter. It hasn’t received any information from Bennell. We are trying to make contact with him," they said.

Superstar talent.

Can Bucks rebuild him ?
Could save his career … both of them !

Roll the dice Bucks.

He's just what we need, but we tend to be rather conservative in our recruiting, so sadly, I can't see us doing it. Crying or Very sad

Sounds like the sort of behaviour that could be buried in the west better than this side of town.

Would love to add him to our list although I doubt anyone will change the behavioural issues in the short term. You'd hope that longer term he'll add some maturity to his persona.

The only person that can be rebuilt is Steve Austin.

MM would have tolerated/excused his behavioural issues as long as his on-field performances justified it.

Hawks saying loudly and often that they don't have any salary cap space so won't be big players in trades this year. And irrespective of the behavioural issues, Bennell still a big fish. WA lad isn't he?

It seems what every media person believed at least.

Not for mine. I don't like the idea of bad influences around a young list.

Anyway, we cant have em all.

At the present time, no thanks.

Give him a year away from AFL footy, then he can decide if he misses it or not. If he decides that he wants to work hard and sort out his personal issues then someone may take a punt on him.

I think Harley is at a point in his career where he needs a change of environment. He says all the right things when he's interviewed but his actions are at odds with his statements about wanting to stay at Gold Coast. Rodney Eade must be close to breaking point regarding retaining him. Only question then remaining is which club has the right environment for a player like Harley. I don't think that club is Collingwood. Aish and Treloar are the obvious targets for a club like ours, not Harley.
