if you had to look at all the teams and the way they score, Hawthorn are the Kings of getting their goals out the back ( over the packs ) Rioli, Pupolo, Bruest and scumbag opportunist Gunston.

Reckon they get around 4-5 every game.

I can't stand them but Hawthorn will be hard to stop if today's performance is anything to go by! They're an impressive side without question.

However them winning four in a row is very tough and the fact that they haven't achieved a 3-peat makes this thread somewhat irrelevant for the time being as a lot can change from now until the end of the season.

The Cats are on the wane.

Their ladder position flattered them last year and their shit % tells the story of how powerful they really were (ie not really and out in straight sets come finals time).

That said Hawthorn will take some tossing but they aren't unbeatable either. Like all sides they're capable of putting in shockers and lets hope the next one happens in Sept/Oct this year. Their supporters are hands down the biggest pricks in the league.

Very much so. They are an awesome side.

And the team that stands the best chance of snapping their thread is, in one of life's little ironies, the very same club who 'protected' our record back in 2004.

I guess black and white blood really is thicker than water... Wink

Unless they develop the much publicized "hubris" that infected our mob in the back half of 2011, or have a coach who's ego and selfishness gets in the way of the success of the club, or worse still a coach who goes against his mantra of "never playing injured players in big games"....Ben Reid, Darren Jolly cough cough.....then put the house on it, barring a tropical cyclone on Grand Final day which makes it a 5v4 goal slog (and Im not even sure that will bother them) the Hawks with their unrivalled depth should win this years flag easing up.....

It's hard to be so deflated so early about just how far off the very best we find ourselves.....but as much as it hurts, I reckon we sit back and enjoy watching such a well drilled outfit, with a group of selfless individuals willing to take pay cuts to keep players at the club, and still have the capacity to bring important ones in...while offloading a gun like Buddy who stepped outside the "club first" mantra, only to become a more feared outfit.

How many clubs could say they'd gladly do that....

That all said, it would be nice if we could somehow hold onto the "only club to win 4 on the spin" title.......one can only hope!

Even with pay cuts and offloading Buddy, I still can't comprehend how they can keep all their established stars and keep topping up with marquee free agents to cover any apparent weakness. I hope I'm wrong and it's still early days, but I can't see anybody getting close this year and even if they do- Stevic and co. will do their best to keep them in the running to better our 4 in a row. I reckon the best chance of stopping them going 4 in a row is to beat them this year, hopefully in a prelim so they are no chance to win it again this year!

The Dawks are a champion team but so were the Pies in 2011 and we did not win it. The Lions went 3 in a row but fell at the final hurdle. Winning 4 in a row has only happened once and for good reason.
1st. You need a champion team
2nd You need luck with injuries
3rd You need that to happen 4 years in a row
The odds are against that happening

OH come now, all their main playmakers are now well on in age in footy years, they still rely very heavily, on Mitchell, Hodge, hale, Roughnutter, Rioli, Lake, Burgonyne, all of whom aint spring chickens anymore, time will and must get them, these guys are now at the pointy end, the end is coming for them. Granted,, they are still good, but aside from a few, they still rely very much on these oldies to do the hard yards, set them afire again. Their kids aren't that great or numerous, and Ceglar ??? LOL, they may make this years GF, but like the Cats, the end is coming, thank god, like Brisbane, nothing lasts forever, not even for the piss and pooh !

Four in a row is totally beyond them. ! Fact.

Exactly, the Pussies looked a jaded and wilted team yesterday, still too heavily reliant on their old stagers, stevie j, lonergan, taylor, bartel, sellwood, Kelly, Enright, etc, and their kids aren't good at all, aside from Guthrie, I reckon they missed Varcoe and Christensen yesterday too, dunno about Mitchell, he might be ok, but the tired cats are gone now, time has got em as it will get the piss and pooh, time and age will get them too, make no mistake. Razz

To early to call
Yes they are an awesome side but injuries can destroy a side.
They dont even need a lot of injuries six players injured if of a similar type will destroy any side.
Take out their 6 tallest players and see what happens.

Lose Roughhead for an extended period and they are toast in the big games.
