very few clubs would ever go into a season with a completely clean bill of health. And even those that say they are would still be managing some players. The great teams can cover injuries ...the lesser sides can not.
It always seems to feel that the younger a side is. The more prone to injuries it is.
I don't think it is unreasonable to say that most honest Collingwood fans would be happy with us making 8th this year. So much will depend on how quickly our younger players develop and if those 3rd - 4th years players live up to expectations. _________________ "To know nothing of events before your birth, is to forever remain a child" - Cicero (Roman Lawyer/Senator) 46 BCE. |

Thats footy, i guess. |
Marsh is available to play, and will line up in the VFL, as is Seedsman. Reid and Witts could play if necessary, but the club is taking a cautious approach.
The only guys who actually have serious injuries are Caff, Berg and Greenwood. Everyone else is either being eased back into playing through the VFL, or on the cusp of doing so.
Seriously, the hysteria some posters have over even a relatively health list is astounding...
Not even sure why Keeffe and Thomas are even in this conversation. Yeah they can't play, but has nothing to do with our supposed 'injury woes' documented in the OP. |

Gault needs to play so we can see how our new potential forward set up looks in action. _________________ From Bustling Billy Picken to Flying 'Billy' Elliott, and all others who I have and have not been blessed enough to watch pull on our proud jumper...Gentlemen, I salute you!! |

you do realise not having 10 players available for senior selection for round 1 is not great!!
Yeah the club can't be blamed for theae injuries or in keeffee & Thomas case suspensions..
But 10 players not available is a hell of a lot before the season has even started..
Maccaffer best 22
Reid best 22
Greenwood best 22
Witts best 22
Sharenberg I believe will be best 22
Young ( has trained fully or pre season)
Seedsman ( coming off hip surgery)
Marsh
Thomas ( suspended most likely not play again)
Keeffee (same as Thomas)
So we have from our list maccaffer young greenwood sharenberg keeffe and Thomas who all will be play little to no footy in the first half of the year.
That is a hell of a lot of depth missing..
Add to that the unknown of reid
You can word it anyway u like but the fact if we are starting the season behind the 8 ball.. If we get another 2 or 3 injuries in the coming weeks our depth once agin will be tested. And you saw what happened in the second half of last year _________________ Collingwood a way of life! |

Im with you TTF. The problem with starting the season with 8 / 10 unavailabilities, is that usually by round 4 or 5, the situation is worse again.
And as you pointed out, the unavailabilities of thomas and keeffe are very relevant, simply because this thread is about our " unavailabilities ", not our injuries.
If we can get half of them back by round 5 and dont lose any additional players in the mean time, i will feel a bit happier about our list. ( what are the odds of that happening )
And yes, we arent the only club with unavailabilities at the start of the season but TBH, i dont give a stuff about other clubs. |

that list is a little deceiving. keeffe and thomas can be considered as lti's and unplanned. the situation does hurt us. as for the others, scharenberg and caff are likely to be back in the vfl in the next couple of months and are a legacy of 2014.
reid and witts are already playing vfl. young is on the fringe and unloved by many so it's neither here nor there if he plays for some. pendles and adams have not been confirmed as outs or, if injured, not going to be missing extensive game time. greenwood and sinclair are the only two who we will miss for any length of period.
our injury list is not even the worst of the clubs. _________________ Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle. |

Im tipping it is over a three year period. Hard to measure but there is no doubt we would be right up there.
Just makes it hard to measure the true potential of the clubs list and buckleys true coaching capabilities.
Maybe it will turn around in the second half of 2015 ..... or maybe not. |

If we had to choose. It would be better to have the injury luck when contending. We don't want that opportunity ruined. When developing a young team, bad luck is not so bad. |

Injuries are part of footy. Cop it. Plenty of other clubs hurting in this area just as bad as Us
Check Hawthorns injuries last year, add to that their coach. And they won the flag.
Good teams deal with it. _________________ 'Collingwood are the Bradmans of Football'
