Post subject: Who will kick our goals this year?
|
Obviously we need to kick more than our opposition to win a game of football. Last year we kicked less & struggled at times to kick a lot of goals.
In the season about to start where are our goals going to come from?
Cloke & Elliot for sure. Beamer was worth on average more than 1 goal a game so he is a loss. I'm hoping Witts can be a contributor given he continues the positive trajectory of development we have witnessed so far.
Question then is, who do you think is going to kick our goals this year? _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |

Good question and an ongoing concern for a lot of us for a couple of seasons now.
The last two weeks where we have failed to kick more than 8 goals doesn't fill one with much confidence.
We continually seem to have to scrap our goals together and not nearly enough come from fluid forward transition that hit targets on the lead or find players in space on there lonesome.
Until we improve our ability by foot, our transition from defence to attack and make better decisions than bombing it long to Cloke out numbered 2 or 3 to 1 or thinking a small like Blair is a viable target across CHF with a long slow 50m pass it wont matter to much who our personnel is.
Still to kick a winning score I'd rather try and load our forward line with players capable of actually kicking that thing we call a goal more than 10 to 12 times a season.
Surely these same players can be developed and conditioned to provide a strong defensive effort as well and it shouldn't be a case of having to choose between one or the other.
Crikey it's not rocket science to chase, harass and tackle the opposition is it, it just requires the correct mindset?
While you can't expect to much from first year players De Goey and Maynard both project at becoming players who could be viable attacking options with there foot skills ones who also are renowned tackling machines at U18 level and are a nice size already.
If the likes of Fasolo and Karnezis don't live up to expectations in terms of goals kicked or prove to be to lazy defensively time and again then I'd rather give these two an opportunity than keep relying on players who have tried and failed to often. _________________ He's mad. I'm also hoping to get regular goals from a mix of Broomhead, De Goey, Karnezis, Fasolo and Gault. |

Good question.
With Varcoe, White, Goldsack, Blair, Cloke and Fasolo are our forwards and a dreadful forward line strategy, I think we'll be averaging about 9-10 goals a game.
Change the strategy or change the personnel. It's easy to do the former. _________________ Fighting against the objectification of woman. |

Don't be so gloomy, you're forgetting Elliott, Karnezis, Broomhead, De Goey Gault and Swanny. |

Cloke best serves our purpose playing high half forward. I have no problem seeing him roaming up to the wings taking marks like he was when we were flying. He should have licence to go anywhere between half Back and deep forward. I reckon Reid should play FF and until he's ready I'd have Witts Grundy or Gault playing as the deep marking option in a ruck rotation. With Elliott as a leading marking crumbling option, Fasolo and Karnezis lurking at the fall of the ball too. I know Swanny is out to redeem himself this year but I see him mostly playing forward this year and could kick 30 goals with his smarts and experience. _________________ 'Collingwood are the Bradmans of Football'

Thats about right.
Add up these scores and divide by 22
and you get 7.6 goals a game! _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

That's from the forwards alone! You haven't taken into account the midfield, ruckman and occasionally a defender scoring a goal. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023
