It will be poetic if these two can remain together till the end.

I enjoyed McCullum chasing that one just a little too much.

Run rate required now 0.52. So NZ helps out with a nice wide.

Then, Michael Clarke plays one on. Could this be the start of a collapse?

No, of course not. 3/175 - Clarke out for 75 from 72 balls.

No doubt DTM is hoping to see Watson hit the winning runs.

Edit: oooops! Jinx.

That's some sort of dominance of this form of the game: the Australians have won 4 of the last 5 World Cups. Just the 16.5 overs to spare, this time.

Pup goes out in style

Michael Clarke scored 74 (72 balls) to help Australia win the ICC ODI World Cup, in today's final.

He and Steve Smith added 112 for the third wicket after Aaron Finch had gone for a duck and Dave Warner scored 45.

Smith was 56 n.o. as Australia beat New Zealand by 7 wickets.

Not at all, Dave.

He did Clarke a favour.

I wanted Pup to get out so he could enjoy the farewell walk at the MCG, in front of a 93,013 crowd.

To do it with a run-a-ball 74 in such a game was schoolboy hero stuff.

Pity they didn't bat first, really - it would have been nice to see Maxwell and Faulkner star with the bat, as well as in the field. Next time???
