Johnson gets the ninth with a low full-toss and then the Big Show gets the final one with a run out! All out 183.

Oz bowlers restrict Caps to 183

An incredible noise erupted at the MCG when Mitchell Starc bowled NZ’s skipper and most destructive batsman, for a duck. It was just the third ball of the innings after Brendon McCullum had won the toss and elected to bat first, in the ICC ODI World Cup final.

Glenn Maxwell and Mitch Johnson also took early wickets.

NZ scored 183. Grant Elliott 83. Johnson took 3/30 and James Faulkner, 3/36. Starc finished with 2/20 from 8 overs.

300 looking tough, now, eh, Donny? That's the thing that getting wickets will do. A graphic just went up on the TV: NZ in this World Cup have averaged 11.5 per over in the last ten. It's fair to say they'll be lucky to get 50 from them today.

In overs 41 to 45, NZ lost 4/18, so they were, in effect, just over 130 runs down on their average return from overs 41 to 50. In two quite devastating bursts, the Australians took the first 3 wickets for 39 from the start and then, at the end, 7 wickets for 33.

Starc and Johnson were brilliant throughout and Faulkner lit up the batting powerplay, tearing the heart out of the NZ middle order just as it looked to be getting up some momentum. 4 ducks (McCullum and two more of the top 7) and a 0 not out tell the tale.

Aussies should not think they have already won.

IF they do they will lose

Why would they think that, Dave ?

Atm, NZ is 183 ahead.

These are hardened professionals.

Well, last time we played NZ we where bowled out for 150-odd

And they just go the Slog trying to win the Game Early is not a Smart Move.

They just need to play the Natural Way

Here come Finch and Warner, out of the tunnel.

Me and the MCG and Grand Finals have traditionally been disturbing experiences, so I want to see them get their heads down, their eyes in and go at about 20 an over.

Excellent job by our bowlers but this game is far from won yet.

The New Zealand bowlers showed in the group match they could knock us off cheaply.

A couple of early wickets and they are right in this match.

And his second. And thus, Australia are level with NZ on run rate but a wicket ahead, at the same stage.
