Pretty hard to sugar coat the first 2 and half quarters. We would want to come out with a different attitude against the Bears in round 1 or we will be embarrassed.
Our defence needs to be able to combat the run and stun handball happy teams. We need a multi-option forward line and we need to make quick decisions and move the ball quickly and directly. I like the idea of Cloke patrolling HF to HB and being an additional let out contested mark from the kick in or second kick out of defence. White, Witts/Grundy or Gault can be the stay at home big forward.
A lot of the stats were relatively even given the one sided nature of the game. The Bulldogs used it much better and, I suspect, more directly.
Greenwood - half game - good and hard until the injury. let's hope it isn't serious.
Fasolo- half game - I didn't realise he was out there until I saw him in the background! Didn't get involved when Elliott went into the midfield today. Really disappointing game.
Crisp - came on in 3rd and good when he came on.
Gault - came on in 3rd and tripped over himself a bit today. can someone teach him how to put a shoe on.
Grundy - I thought he was pretty good today despite losing hitouts to Minson.
Elliott - looked good through the midfield.
Cloke - double and triple teamed all night. who was free??? See my comments above for how I'd like him used.
Sidebottom - good. lock.
Pendles - good, but looked quiet.
Swan - looked quiet, but still racked up some stats. (nowhere near 2013 form yet in my view)
Ramsey - looked good.
Oxley - looked good. he may get promoted ahead of Gault.
Goldsack - ok but possible shoulder injury? (he came back on though)
Blair - tried his guts out but needs to hit the scoreboard to keep his spot.
White - didn't click. looked like 2014.
Adams - good.
Langdon - good again. Was doing kick ins.
Frost - ok under fire.
Brown - ok under fire.
Toovey ok under fire.
Thomas - pretty good.
Sinclair - did a few things but quiet. Was doing kick ins.
Williams - ok early, but faded I thought.
Varcoe - I'm just not seeing what some see in him. I hope
i an wrong.
Who did I miss?
Coaches in the box looked shell shocked. (As I am!)
I am backing the boys to come out and announce their presence with authority (thump The Bears) in round 1. Gault, Oxley and Ramsey have put real pressure on the selectors. Round 1 side will be interesting.
PS How good was the Bont? The Dogs have a future star there. _________________ All We Can Be |

Same as last year
Tend to think the game changed on Buckley and the Pies, and he can't keep up/Derek Hine can't recruit players to keep up
Everything now is basketball transition, played in cagey patches. Eventually when someone gets a turnover, they are away. And since we have the worst skills in the comp, opposition teams can just wait to feast.
Buckley talked about "becoming the best transition team in the comp" but our skills are awful, our work-rate is terrible, and our players seem to be stuck between terror at making a mistake, or terrible disposal errors and decision making when we try and be bold (or what the hell, kick it to Travis Cloke in an 8 on 1)
The recruiting is ridiculous - fine if you want to get rid of Heater, but bring in Taylor Adams who is the worst decision maker you could find. Beams chooses to leave, so we get Jack Crisp off them, and all the commentary is "well he's a poor kick but..."
Everything in footy is in 2015 about decision making, good skills, good running and hard work. On the evidence of the last few weeks of 2014, and this, we're in desperate trouble...
Round 1, we need it.... _________________ We just got nutted at the clearances... |

Well, the worst thing about tonite was the game!
There was not one thing to get excited about. Not one.
Every player looked ordinary or down right pathetic.
Is Taylor Adams the worst kick in the league?
Keep playing Blair and Goldsack in the forward half
and you will keep getting scores of 8 or 9 goals
a game.
Memo to Hine - only recruit players who can kick the ball!
Seriously you are the most overated recruiter of the last 6 years.
Memo to Grundy - you were thrashed tonite.
And to our wonderful coach - what is the plan? _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

I thought Thomas was woeful. I don't like to judge from a TV broadcast because you can't see the off the ball work, but his handling and disposal under pressure was exceptionally bad. I thought Oxley and Ramsey did well in a backline that was under the pump. Adams was certainly eager, energetic and courageous, tho I would hate to be trying to unscramble his brainwaves when he is under pressure. Christ knows what he is thinking.... I was surprised when I saw Crisp out there, he impressed with limited game time. Not only would we be shot ducks without Pendles, but thank the Lord for Goldy too! _________________ Every Thought In My Head, Someone Else Has Said ! |

In: Reid, Witts, Freeman, Kennedy, Karnezis, De Goey, Broomhead
To hell with it.
Let's see if the kids can generate some passion and pride in performance. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD!
