You know, usually I'm one of those to give the club a spray with stunts and antics like these, but on this occasion, my reaction is... meh.
Actually, the idea of a VFL intra-club game, at this stage of the pre-season (even if they didn't flash the Batsignal to let us know about it), might actually be a clever move by the club.
Consider this: the actual VFL practice matches are there to stage 'live-fire' tryouts for our VFL list. Any AFL players who play are there solely to get some mileage into their legs, which kind of undermines the original intent of the games in the first place (hence you need permission to play them). With our currently fit AFL list, those prospective VFL players are getting a bit crowded out. Good for the club, but not so good for those boys wanting a shot with our VFL team and eager to prove themselves. This will especially become apparent after next Thursday, when the entire AFL list effectively goes into war mode as the AFL season begins and the lesser lights need to be on standby.
Hence, we do a Scott Pendlebury and create some extra time out of nothing and stage a VFL intra-club.
Running a couple of underdone seniors in there also helps in that, while not comparing to the conditions of an actual practice game, guys like Reid can get that little bit of extra work into them which could (hypothetically) be the difference between a round 1 debut. Guys like Seedsman and Moore also go into next Thursday with a little bit of touch he would not otherwise have got, so they're not going in cold.
And, really, we had to do something after the Infracters bailed on us (we were previously scheduled to play them tomorrow afternoon until they realised it would reset their 'ban clock').
Understand your frustration and passion Dave, but the club hasn't committed a cardinal sin on this occasion. Bigger fish to fry.

If there's a VFL intraclub at the Westpac Centre, and there's no one there to watch it, do we still get the usual Friday injuries?
