The text of the bill has not yet been released and even ISPs have been kept in the dark.

You can't block torrenting per se.

You can only block the websites where torrents are downloaded. Many users use utorrent and download via encrypted data (slightly slower).

If they want to block torrenting I believe they would have to block all ports, but that will still leave open 8080, 443, 3389 plus others; all of which can be used for torrenting.

They can save meta data all they want. Until they change the copyright act to include online, the best major movie companies can do is come after you via a civil case. It's not criminal at this point in time.

(please correct me if I'm wrong).

And that may be part of the problem. Scare tactics preying on lack of knowledge.

True they can’t Block Torrents but they can Track you what you are doing with Torrents(I think they Can).

Can they Track Private Trackers?

Is encrypting Torrents using a VPN?

Well - There been worries that the Major Movies Companies can sue you for as much as they want. So you could get sued Millions for Downloading 1 Movie Evil or Very Mad

Apparently MPs were only given 30 minutes to read the bill before it was debated. Bandt and Wilkie couldn't even find any reference to metadata being deleted after the two-year period. A black day for the country.

It’s just like in China now. Like living in a Dictatorship as they can take down any site they want Crying or Very sad

Spot On - This won’t effect people who know what they are doing. Not Very Much as it is quite easy to get around it.

Though it’s more scaring the Average Joe who does know much. Trying to stop them

They may be emboldened by this, though. Thinning out the herd and all that, so they can make examples of a few people. I'd be very careful downloading if you're intending to use TOR or some other service; it's very easy to get traced if you don't know what you're doing.

Well using TOR would make downloading way to slow anyway.

Use a VPN is about the best thing you can do that is Not to Expensive. Most Expensive is about $10 per month and good VPN’s can be easy to set up

Hey Stui, I am not scared about what is happening now, more about what the government wants to do, I can see this just costing the general public more money for very little reason.
I am just not computer technical enough to understand it all! Embarassed

Gees I don't get all the hooha. Just don't download. Movies and tv series aren't expensive, pay the money. If everyone did the right thing, prices would go down. Just like health insurance and welfare.

I watch the walking dead on a site that gives me no grief, costs me nothing. I deleted all the torrent stuff (mostly put there by my kids!).

My daughter is at an interesting part of her uni course, teaching them how to hack basically! And get around people getting around torrents etc!
