Post subject: Tony Shaw warning to BucksReply with quote

Quote:
COLLINGWOOD legend Tony Shaw says Nathan Buckley’s favourite son status won’t save him if the Pies’ slide continues.

Shaw told the Herald Sun he didn’t see Buckley in the gun, but said a “volatile” coaching industry meant his side had to start performing soon.

Buckley is contracted until the end of 2016 and his regeneration strategy has the backing of club chiefs.

But it’s Collingwood’s drop from fourth to eighth to 11th in his three years in charge that has the sharks starting to circle.

Shaw, a 1990 premiership captain and Norm Smith medallist, was told to resign as Magpie coach in 1999.

“It doesn’t matter what name you are, whether you’re a favourite son — and I’ve been through it — you’ve got to pay a price, but I hope it doesn’t happen because I’ve got enormous respect for the bloke,” Shaw said.

“I reckon they had heaps of excuses (last year), but the excuses fall by the wayside if they continue. It’s a big year, you’d hope they make the eight.

“He’s got two years left on the contract so I wouldn’t think anything would be done unless it’s disastrous and they were non-competitive in a lot of areas until his contract is up.

Sounds Like he is Still Pissed at him getting Sacked by Eddie

He's not pissed at all.

Haters are gonna hate but he's right on the money.

We must improve our brand of football this season and be seen as heading in the right direction.

It's well and truly time with a coach in his fourth season.

Buckley also did the apprenticeship as well as learning tactics and stuff, Shaw needed to be less their friend more the coach. But I think Shaw would have been a fine Assistant coach.

some of you really need to move on with your negative opinion of shaw and immediate slandering of him each time he says something. he is correct in what he says but i am inclined to take the chrisso view.

So is the issue the fact that Bucks cleaned out all the "indiviuals" to create his own team? or do most think if Roos, Clarkson or Lyon was the coach of the Pies this year or last year we would win a flag???

Which is it? I think Bucks is clearly on the right track and if we dont do much this year or even next year I wouldnt be concern at all.

Darky I feel most supporters agree but the impatient and Bux haters / Mick acolytes will tell you injuries - even the ongoing avalanche we have had for three years now - are irrelevant.

I am not fussed with Shaw's opinion, he just like us loves this club and WANTS Buckley to succeed as well. I don't see any bitterness in his comments about the Pies, he praises the club where need be but also tries to have a balanced view as well.

You may not like the view that Shaw takes on some issues, but he is still a Collingwood legend, that wants as much as us to see the Pies succeed and for Buckley to also be the next premiership coach.

I am also sure Buckley will take on any advice and do so with respect and then carry on and hopefully bring us our next flag very soon.

I think this is a less headline seeking comment from Shaw than what he has done in the past. Have no problems with these comments.

There's an element of highlighting his experience as an example of what can happen - but shouldn't given where we are heading with Bucks.

Mick should have won in 2011. People saying he handed over a premiership team are plain wrong. Bucks decisions to me have always seemed club and team first at the expense of self preservation.

I want to see how he can mould these young players over the next 2 years minimum. Injuries aside, we have the depth now to cover albeit not the games played.

Two seasons will cover that for the most part.

Norm smith medallist, premiership captain, multiple copeland winner including in the premiership year. He's earned a thousand times more right to make a comment on how Collingwood is travelling than any of his detractors have.

^^^ Agreed. Don't mind him saying what he thinks. In this case, he is incorrect.
