Its a brutal sport. So sad for these guys. Really feel for the dogs and the Eagles who basically have had their season's ruined already. Both players incredibly valuable to their team.

I wonder if their coaches will be fired? Laughing Laughing Laughing

Oh what rubbish. Its just they don't breed em tough like they used to. Remember some of the big players back in the 60's and 70's. Whale Roberts and Mick Nolan of North Melbourne come to my mind. Those sort of blokes never got these injuries. Today too many players are conditioned like Ballet dancers and they break down when subjected to the toughness of AFL. You should not train footballers for our game like those vile lycra wearing cyclists you see on Beach road. These are not men in the traditions of what a real aussie man should be. Men from the old VB commercials are the sorts I admire. How can any woman find a man in tight lycra attractive. The look like pussy wimps. Lets get the big men back into our game like we are now starting to go back to suburban grounds thank goodness. These modern footballers are in need of a good beer and meat pie after every training session.

So, have the appropriate questions been put to Collingwood's fitness staff or are we just going to let them get away with this again?

You have to love Hiss!
What a great rant!
You can't say you don't get 57 varieties on Nicks.

Knees and ankles .... everything else you can train, condition, massage, build up, strengthen, improve. But knees ... you get what you get. Maybe your knees will stand up to the strain, maybe they won't. Maybe you will just happen to flex it the exact wrong way today, maybe someone else will. Take a number and wait in line. Knees and ankles. Shoulders too. You just have to hope.

Tough luck on those two players, tough luck on their clubs. You feel sorry for them, but it could be Travis Cloke next week. Or Pendlebury. Or G Ablett. Or Watson. Or some Melbourne reserves player you never heard of. It's just random. You run out and you hope it doesn't happen, and if it does happen, you hope it isn't you. And if it is you, you go through all the drawn out agony of trying to make it back and you hope the other one doesn't go.

PS: great post Hiss!

We've had our turn these last few seasons so it's about time our bad luck landed in the lap of others.

It's a relief that it isn't us this time but we copped this back in 2012 when Macaffer did his knee against GWS in the NAB Cup so it's indiscriminate towards anyone.

Libba is a massive loss for the Dogs especially with their mass exodus at the end of last season of experienced players.

Season ending injuries to young players is always sad news and an issue for our game.

All this debate about whether restricting the interchange rotations and having subs or not is good for the game should really only be about whether it reduces fatigue injuries or not.

I think it was the Age that reported recently that it is likely the sub will be abolished and interchanges restricted to 80 per game next year.

It defiantly seems like there is more injuries occurring of this mould each year. I'm not sure if it's maybe due to the increase of pace and intensity to the game itself or just pure back luck. It's a horrible thing for these athletes to go through though.
