I'm not up to speed on this, but apparently Abbott has gone the bobble-headed silent treatment with Andrews LOL:

Others will have to fill me in.

Abbott proudly declared before the state election that it was going to be a referendum on the east West link. It was the people voted the AL:P in on a clear mandate to not proceed with the Link.

However unbeknown to the incoming government is that the Cnut O, Brien (lib upper class ex treasurer) wrote a letter that he hid from the public just moments before the election that guaranteed the firms they could go ahead & receive compensation even if it were found to be illegal or overturned by a court.

State labour is looking at parliament to rescind the disgusting treasonous act by O'Brien. He played brinkmanship without regard for the will of the people.

There is a push by the self interested & some libs in the relevant areas to make this an issue. The other parties to this are the private interests & their various fronts using the rubbish that people will not invest in Australia.

At the end of the day it is merely another fear campaign by the Mad Misogynist Monk.

Congratulations to the Andrews Government on a fair settlement for the rip off prices that the previous government signed the public up for.

In the words of the current Prime Minister before the last State Victorian election, that election was to be for a mandate to proceed or not with the East- West tunnel. The election then gave a mandate to the Andrews government not to proceed with the costly business that the Libs signed us up for despite not having a mandate & further writing a secret letter giving away peoples rights & legal rights over the tunnel - O'Brien hang your head in shame, pr*ck.

http://www.theage.com.au/business/east-west-in-the-end-a-fair-deal-on-both-sides-20150415-1mldwr.html

Andrews kept his election promise, did not cost Taxpayers a penalty.

O'Brien the shadow treasurer should be jailed for treason to the state - putting self interest before the rights of Victorians both legal & in terms of voting rights. Sheer scum.

Congratulations to the State ALP.

Now to get rid of the level crossings holding up traffic. In this neck of the woods it includes Nerrim road near Caulfield racecourse & Ormond Station on North road.

339 million for 200 days work.

Yeah right.

339 million compensation.

Just more political spin.

Spin shmin, not from the ALP nor from the Lib pr*cks: (see link above)

from The Age Business Day Columnist Mal Maiden (no fan of the ALP it should be added) runs the financial ruler over the deal that tears up the East West Link contract.

East West: In the end, a fair deal on both sides

The East West settlement deal strips out future payments for a project that will not happen, without denying the consortium money it has already spent.

The aim of commercial negotiations is to find a deal that both sides can live with, and the heads of agreement that promises to settle the dispute over the Andrews government's decision to cancel the East West Link tollway project fits the bill.

There is pain on both sides, but it is not punitive.

The Andrews government has resolved the impasse over the East West Link, agreeing to pay the consortium contracted to build it $339 million to walk away from the project.

But the government will not detail how the consortium had spent so much money in the 200 days since the contracts to build the road were signed.

Quote:
Mr Andrews said the money that had been handed to the consortium was not compensation.

Instead he said it represented costs incurred so far by East West Connect, the group appointed by the Napthine government to build, own and operate the road.

Neither Mr Andrews nor his Treasurer Tim Pallas would be drawn in any detail on how the East West Connect consortium had spent hundreds of millions of dollars in the six months since the contract was signed to build the road.

It's a good outcome. The Government threatened to legislate. The Consortium thought best to get something rather than nothing. Now join the Ring Road to the Eastern. They have the machinery, manpower and money to do this.

Now would be a great time for the State Government to borrow money for these infrastructure projects because the interest rates are so low. I hope though they don't go down the PPP route because the Gov't always loses. I know that won't happen because both Libs & Lab think it's the only way to go forward.

Get some infrastructure into the West, North & the outer areas where developers have been allowed to develop with great profit & not have any regard to the transport & social needs of people living out there.

Start the Railway crossings & finish the damn ring road that you've referred to.

Hahaha, need a change of government for that, Labor don't build roads, the greenies don't want them

Here's to many more years of pain that will only get worse when trying to cross the city, well done to Daniel Andrews on trying to send this state backwards

Absolutely no reason why one needs to be done first, they can all be done at the same time.

Instead of doing it piece by piece and spreading the cost over several years, borrow the money up front, get everyone to work at the same time and pay it back over several years. Same financial impact, stuff gets done faster.

Or does that destroy the illusion of job creation by creating X jobs over 12 months as opposed to X/5 jobs over 5 years?

What we have here is State Governments being run by polls and the extra problem when you have minorities controlling balance of power. In some ways it works but in most cases it doesn't. The Previous State Government sat on their hands until the last minute, the current Government has it's hand over it's mouth. Federally it's the same case but we have gone from one bunch of morons to an elitist bunch or royalist morons.

THE RACV has called on the Federal Government to fund the missing link Metropolitan Ring Road completion, listing it as a number one priority.

In its pre-Budget submission lodged before this weeks deal to end the East West Link, the peak roads body says the completion of the Metropolitan Ring Road would cost about $6 billion.

It listed it as its top priority, followed by a $1 billion upgrade of the M80 Western Ring Rd. The East West Link was placed third.

RACV general manager of public policy Brian Negus said the axing of the East West Link was unfortunate and he urged the State and Federal governments to instead build the missing link in Melbournes outer east.

The proposal would link Greensborough to the Eastern Freeway and EastLink, and has been on the states maps since 1969.

The Metropolitan Ring Road has long been the RACVs top infrastructure project, Mr Negus said.

He said it was a project of national significance given the large amount of freight being moved through the region.
