He is on a slow burn.
Each year he seems to get a little better and I
think he is getting close to his best. |
Clearance work and break away pace were both good. Just needs to get his disposal by foot up a notch. |

Most pleasing for me was the performances of a few of the <50 game type guys we need to stand up. Sinclair, Karnezis, Thomas, Gault, Ramsay, Kennedy, Grundy, Langdon, and Adams. Add that to the solid contributions of the new guys in Greenwood, Varcoe, and Crisp and solid games from Fasolo and White. These players are the middle tier critical to our efforts in 2015. |

The AFL-employed journo at the match rated Varcoe our best player. No seriously, he did!
Haven't seen a replay of the game, but there seems to be plenty of love for Ben Sinclair here. He disposed well and ran hard, but how was he as a defender? How did his opponent go? _________________ After the epic draw comes the decisive knockout!
Collingwood rules the world again and Mick Malthouse fulfils his destiny with the twenty ten premiership and can you hear the people sing! |

Varcoe didn't have a great night, but he showed enough, I could tell he was trying his ass off but nothing seemed too pan out for him, that will change if he keeps putting the effort in. _________________ Defender...........

Some players were rusty but will improve
De Goey shows a lot of class
White did well but always does in the NAB pity about the rest of the season
Grundy was good
Varcoe has pace and can kick seems an upgrade on Young
Freeman didnt do much but is playing football so is a plus
Happy with Sinclair and Williams
Having Elliot and Fasolo up forward and one of White/Reid/Gault to help out Cloke will mean finally a decent forward line. _________________ Carlscum 120 years being cheating scum |

Bit harsh about White, there. I saw a game down at Geelong late last season where he won the reserves match off his own boot with a brilliant, no holds barred last quarter.... |

great link - interesting to see the new players - Greenwood is much more like Ball than I originally thought, head over the ball, fights hard in close, runs headlong into packs and not pushed off the ball easily _________________ I think therefore I think - I think |

For mine the biggest negative (and I just finished watching the match replay for a second time) was Sidey. Yes he had 22 or 23 but half were ineffective and 4 of his first 5 touches we're backwards to players under the pump. Not to mention he missed a goal from less than 30 out again and couldn't even get a point. Yes he did some good stuff but under pressure he is very much like Williams. Watch his opponents if you get the chance to watch the replay. First Langford bathed him early then he was sent forward and on Mitchell who got leather poisoning while Sidey run 20 meters behind him. Yes he got over the back for a easy goal but he didn't man up at all all night on his direct opponent. I counted (when I could clearly see who his direct opponet was) they had 37 touches and set up 3 goals. |
Yep his kicking is not improving. I don't know what's going on. Dinky kicks even when under minimal pressure. Costing us goals and putting others under pressure. He's got a fair way to go to be elite IMO. _________________ "The night is a very dark time for me" Chaz Michael Michaels |

I'll be buggered how anyone rated Varcoe amongst our best. Not saying he won't be a good pick up, but in that game I just can't see how some journos rated his performance. _________________ "The night is a very dark time for me" Chaz Michael Michaels |

Since he's been the second best player at the Club over the last three seasons, that's a source of serious concern. |
