Everything that is wrong with this Cuntry summed up with the elitist attitude in this post! |
Oh my, what an unfortunate typo.
Out of curiosity, though, why is it necessarily elitist to make fun of Summernats when people pay me out on my film taste all the time? I'm actually pretty non-judgemental about these things; wish I could say the same for some people with more mainstream tastes. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

We could just call you strange!!
I don't really think you are non judgmental, but hey, I don't think anyone is. We may say live and let let, and yeah I'm ok with that, but the demons on your shoulder are rolling their eyes!
That's human nature my friend, we all judge

That doesn't actually help me understand what a Bourgie is, unless it means middle aged French tosser. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

I do not understand. I don't judge people. That is interesting. |

La Bourgeoisie:
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=bourgeois&defid=5405585
Quote: | When pronounced "BOO-zhee" (soft-j sound like in French) refers to a quality of (sometimes mildly) snobby-without-realizing-it, upper-middle-class sensibilities. Usually associated with upper-middle-income white people, but not necessarily. Can involve driving the right car, getting the right (healthy or gourmet) foods, having a professional/white-collar job, always having "nice" things, $4 lattes at Starbucks or elsewhere because you think you're above Starbucks, having a well-diversified stock portfolio and other retirement savings, having a special set of dishes and everything else just for Christmas, status-symbol kids or pets, carbon offsets, thinking $15 wine is cheap, listening to NPR, and gentrifying neighborhoods. Even though not all of these things may be bad and some of them could be done by anybody (like healthy food or looking down on Starbucks), it's a certain combination and a certain attitude that goes along with it that you know when you see. As with many type-of-people-describing things, there can be some overlap with other things, yuppy stuff and hipster stuff especially (although hipsters tend to be associated with 20-somethings, and yuppies tend to be younger-middle-age; bourgeois has more of an association with younger-middle-age-thru-older-middle-age); can be distinguished from super-rich stuff; some people might do bourgeois things occasionally or do things in a bourgeois way, but some people are just bourgeois and usually don't realize it. |
I hope this also answers Frankie's question. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

OK, Ta for that .
So basically, Bourgies are what Hipsters become once they earn decent coin.

They're the ones who dream of communist revolution without an inkling of the irony that they'll be the first ones up against the wall. |

^ Really? I think you give them far too much credit for revolutionary sentiment. Trenday South Yarra cafes are where it's at. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Ah, but while at those trendy Sth Yarra cafes they're solving the issues of the world on Twitter or with one of their ever so exclusive fundraisers .
It's all about feeling left wing still, and putting shit on those who aren't or (worse) actually have to work for a living. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

you ought to drop by south yarra one day. it's not what it used to be. the so-called trendy cafes are simply over priced, under-serviced pretentious wanks.
i moved back here a few months ago and i can't say i am overly impressed. paul little has his grubby hands all over this area with his head office and apartment blocks.
having said this, things could be worse. i could be living in a real third world area like sunshine, perish the thought. _________________ Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle. |
