Should we make a genuine play at getting Dangerfield?
Yes - and surpass any other financial offer made to improve our odds.

Would we trade the Captain out if it was a choice between him and Dangerfield?

Selling the soul of the club for that is not a great idea.... Rolling Eyes

Dare I say... can we see how our midfield performs this year before we make a call on this?

If we perform as a few optimists believe we will then I don't think we have a need for him - particularly in relation to the salary cap and how close it would push us (if we're not already there).

If the midfield is average or below then there's a huge argument to chase him. The guy's a star, let's be honest but you don't want to bring him in at the expense of losing some of our younger quality players who we wouldn't have the coin to pay.

My sentiments exactly.

Let's all be patient (THAT nasty word again!) with our young list and see what happens this year.

Dangerfield's a terrific player and easily Adelaide's best player and I would strongly consider him but not at an outrageous price though. The worst thing we can do is bog ourselves down with one player and with a salary cap in place we could risk losing youngsters as they demand higher wages which they'll inevitably do as time goes on and they improve.

That's where I think the Bulldogs will have problems in the future with paying Tom Boyd one million dollars a year while having to satisfy there other younger players like Bontempelli, Stringer and Hrovat.

If we obtained Dangerfield at a reasonable price I'd have him in a heartbeat with no questions asked especially if Swan decides to retire at the end of the year or in 2016.

We have a lot of youth and exciting youngsters coming through the ranks but it'd be great to add some more experience in the side especially losing so many experienced players recently such as Shaw, Ball, Beams and Thomas for example.

But we've lost so many high priced players (Thomas, Shaw, Beams) recently and with Swan no guarantee to go on past this season I just don't really see how adding Dangerfield should push us past what's in the best interests of our entire playing list.

We need more genuine A grade stars and some valuable experience added to our list profile.

Would landing Dangerfield be our biggest get since Buckley?

Easily IMO, but at what cost? That's the question.

We've loaded up with lots of high draft picks over the last few seasons and while I'm eagerly anticipating their development over coming seasons, I wouldn't say no to adding Danger to the team. At this stage I'd guess we're probably 3rd in the pecking order on his services behind Adelaide and Geelong.

So we're 2nd then, because he's not staying at Adelaide.

Would be interesting if we finished ahead of Geelong on the ladder this year, that might tip the scales our way.

Melbourne are also in for him, Bernie Vince is there and they were very close apparently.
