I see channel 7 started theirs early to trump channel 9. Naturally 7 had the advantage of all the footage considering location but 9 used actors to get their story across.
I didn't know until this morning that the first 3 hostages that ran out were men.  |

Watching 7's, the first bloke out, the one who crawled across the floor to push the green exit button was 82 years old. I'm very happy to excuse him from any argument about how the able bodied blokes should have stayed to defend the women.

| I have issues with them getting paid for this as many dollars and resources were spent in trying to rescue the hostages safely from the cafe. Specialized people put their lives on the line with many people working behind the scenes too and now some of these victims are sticking the boot into the authorities saying they botched it and should have called in the army etc. Yes the media are to blame for encouraging this but I honestly don't think that they should be allowed to profit from this. |

These interviews made me feel uneasy and apparently we didn't really learn too much about what unfolded inside that we didn't already know beforehand. This was just a media stunt to grab ratings between the two biggest networks in Channel 7 and Channel 9 and hence I refrained from watching it.
I don't begrudge the victims being paid but the whole process made me feel uneasy and I just feel like airing such programs like the ones we saw last night will actually make terrorist groups or sympathisers of such groups thrive and more determined to outdo each other in committing attacks against innocent civilians in the future. After all they want media attention and recognition for their acts of violence.
In regards to the ratings themselves Channel 9 were the winners last night according to OzTam figures with 1.28m viewers tuning in as opposed to Channel 7 which got 1.127m viewers tuning in into these interviews.

Is what these people did any worse than the the vile USA system of jurors on famous trials doing book deals. Or appearing on Oprah or whatever garbage show a month later. "Ooh I was so stressed" Now give me a million bucks and stuff the real victims who are
a. The families of those murdered, tortured, kidnapped etc.
b. The idiots who watch the shows whose intelligence resembles that of a piece of driftwood.

How much did 9 and 7 make out of the advertising from last nights shows?
I have no issue with these people getting paid when the networks are earning millions from peoples misery. |
