geez you don't eat out much do you? A seafood platter is just that, a very large plate stacked with assorted seafood. generally the only non seafood thing would be some lemon wedges and maybe some tartar sauce.

I'm not much on seafood either. I've taught myself to be able to eat prawns and some fish and almost enjoy it, but you can jam bugs, crabs and oysters where the sun don't shine.

Fried whitebait at a greek restaurant is interesting, it's like eating crunchy fish flavoured chips.

Don't eat out much Stui? Me? Nope. Only if it's a family thing or something else I can't sensibly avoid. But I would expect any meal served to have some sort of balance though. I presume that the idea is to leave essential stuff out so that they can charge you an extra $15 a head for two carrots and a parsnip on a separate plate. FMD, even if you buy a sausage outside Bunnings at least you get a slice of bread and butter and some onions with it.

Mate, meals you get when you eat out aren't supposed to be balanced. balanced is what you do at home when you're managing your own diet, eating out is about taste and indulgence, not healthy or balance.

Nothing balanced about fish and chips, Pizza, most pasta dishes but they're Friday night staples. As long as you don't try to love off them, all good.

Seafood crepes - prawns, fish usually rockling, calamari, crab meat and scallops and leek in a mornay sauce topped with finely grated cheese and baked - accompanied by a green salad and roasted herb potatoes and a Cab Sav- yum yum yum!

At the restaurant of moi - all fresh seafood, home made sauce and home made crepes - seafood crepes when I have tried them at restaurants are always just that bit disappointing.

Not that fond of going out to eat - you have to find something decent to wear (boring!) there are people and you have to watch what you drink!

I make exceptions for Jack's Satay Bar in Moonee Ponds who make fantastic Malaysian Noodle dishes priced at round $16 , Tookaiya Japenese in Keilor Rd North Essendon who do everything well at a reasonable price and Ameer Tandoori in Leake Street Essendon who make the best curries and garlic nan ever at good prices!

I tried loving off a marinara pizza once, but I couldn't get rid of the smell of fish. Shocked

Had lunch today at the Soda Rock Diner in Sth Yarra.

http://www.sodarock.com.au/

Had the burger with the lot, chilli cheese fries and a coke. Everything was cooked fresh and tasty, burger was nice although not very big (width), chips were cooked to be crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle just the way I like em with chilli ladled over top.

Considering most of the people in the area were probably having an air sandwich and a snort of tofu, I quite enjoyed it.

South Yarra eh, I hope you shaved!! Very Happy

Been going to these 2 Malaysian places in Kensington pretty much once a week for the last few months. Usually me and the kids when the missus is at work for the evening. There's the odd night when one just simply can't be stuffed cooking anything. Smile

They're both pretty much across the road from the old Gee Bung there. (They had statues of ex-Prime Ministers in caricature form around the place before changing to what's now the Doutta Gala. Malcolm Fraser was holding his hand out for a handshake with his pants around his ankles, and a dopey grin with red cheeks. Laughing )

- Tofu something something - I don't like tofu, but that's only a certain section of their menu. Best Chicken & Corn soup I've had.
- Chef Lagenda - they also opened in Deer Park recently, or I only noticed it there recently. The Malaysian Roti with Satay Beef is to kill for.

Both have great variety on the menu, very tasty, meal portions are very generous for the price - whether you go a few of the $18.00 size serves and share around, or the $9.80 size individual serves with rice or noodles plus a soup or something, they both have a great range of noodle soups, great service, never leave unsatisfied, I've never tried aything I haven't liked at either place.
Have I talked these 2 joints up enough yet?? Very Happy

Why the hell would you order the Seafood Platter if you don't have a hankering for seafood Tannin?? Laughing Laughing

At the chain end of things, is Chipotle in Australia yet?

There are a couple of stores in London so far I think, and the US version was pretty good if you like that kind of thing.

But can it compete with small-shop/stand Australian Lebanese food? I doubt it, but to be fair I've only had Chipotle twice, and businesses turning a profit struggle to compete with good small store food in Australia at the best of times.

Any of the new delivery app-type services operating in Australia yet?
