I'm at work and it's 44 again today... beautiful.
The site BBQ with plenty of lamb chops is what's on everybody's mind this morning.
Geez the beers go down well after a run on the treadmill up here!
I don't usually like 'em, prefer tracks but it's just too hot and too many death adders out there for my liking.

Remembrance followed by celebration could work, and is probably the de facto approach of many people already. These are two different head spaces, but transitioning from the solemn to the optimistic isn't a bad way to proceed.
The remembrance could be formally demarcated, much like ANZAC Day morning. Surely, this integral aspect of the day doesn't need to exist in a parallel universe.

It’s hard to know, centuries later, how fervently this was meant, but it is a very important document and it is duly reflected in Phillip’s communications after the landing. To the extent that things deteriorated thereafter it was certainly not from settled malice on his part. In particular, his personal restraint after being speared in the shoulder while interacting under conditions of trust is greatly to his credit. For a colonization in the generally barbaric 1700s (a world in which slavery was considered just a branch of commerce), this intent, and the follow-through, was about as good as it got. It is why the Australian Aboriginal people, who were so completely defenceless because of the technology and cultural gap, fortunately survive in such numbers today. It is also why the monstrous charges of genocide are so duplicitous and vicious.
For my part, I shall celebrate Australia Day by paying a short visit to Bread St in London today, where Phillip was born, to pay my respects to one of the first great Australians, a pragmatic man who did his duty and thereby did so much to found a nation of liberty and prosperity.
