Have a great day peeps
I'm at work and it's 44 again today... beautiful.
The site BBQ with plenty of lamb chops is what's on everybody's mind this morning.
Geez the beers go down well after a run on the treadmill up here!
I don't usually like 'em, prefer tracks but it's just too hot and too many death adders out there for my liking. _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |

Here's the dancing and drinking soundtrack for the day (just a bunch of Australian songs I like, not in order and no grandiose claims are made - other than in jest - for any of them) -
And the award for Best Colonial Song goes to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSNxFGW09Mo
And now number 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jf-jHCdafZY
Number 3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uimTGnJF2A8
Number 4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQfAZVsz6KM
Number 5: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zu0lBJPFERE
Number 6: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHFFuukk9Y8
Number 7: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3YC5sc_V6I
And whilst we're on that theme, number 8: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHtGu0OGEpc
Number 9: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCQjBC4DM4o
Number 10: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AaBbT-UaUi0
Number 11 (Bon Scott's greatest moment): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZY2nl2CwLc
Got to pay jonesr227's comment on this one: "After seeing this video, I have to ask the question of why didn't AC/DC incorporate any recorder playing in their music? "
Number 12: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywlMscN4Loc
Number 13; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DLccP2yh_o
Number 14: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1POR4H0gJss
Number 15: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLHKia4PTKQ
And for David ("The 60s was 50 years ago, you know - get over it"), number 16: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmPU45gQdFQ
Number 17: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bCsjy0UhMk
Number 18 (no such list would be complete without Australia's greatest living musician in it - go Chris): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hz3k8gGTsqo
Number 19: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkQ9lqzugsE
Number 20 (It's a long way to the shop, if you want a sausage roll - I don't really like this group but I always enjoy waiting for a chord change to happen in this one): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sUXMzkh-jI&list=PLLhMcMyPpQnMJvBfMF4r_oNKiKa2Et7cG&index=5
Number 21: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-h3T7CMztk
Number 22: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEs00KAiYL8
Number 23: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ME920H7a7Lw
From that great Australian songwriting team, Paul Simon and Bruce Woodley, number 24: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouh6YgoH100
Number 25: I'd really like to put Jeannie Lewis' version of "Do Not Go Gentle", here but it doesn't seem to be on youtube. Otherwise, I'd link to her cover of Celluloid Heroes - which started an interest for me in Ray Davies' songwriting that lasts to this very day. But that's not on youtube, either, so, I'll go, instead, for that greatest of all Australian bands (in the sense that I saw them sing this live at Festival Hall about 35 years ago) singing my favourite song ("It was on a loser album but I think it's a good song", says Ray in his introduction to a different, live version of this, in typical understatement): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTJVclgwS5g |

Remembrance followed by celebration could work, and is probably the de facto approach of many people already. These are two different head spaces, but transitioning from the solemn to the optimistic isn't a bad way to proceed.
The remembrance could be formally demarcated, much like ANZAC Day morning. Surely, this integral aspect of the day doesn't need to exist in a parallel universe. _________________ In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.

It’s hard to know, centuries later, how fervently this was meant, but it is a very important document and it is duly reflected in Phillip’s communications after the landing. To the extent that things deteriorated thereafter it was certainly not from settled malice on his part. In particular, his personal restraint after being speared in the shoulder while interacting under conditions of trust is greatly to his credit. For a colonization in the generally barbaric 1700s (a world in which slavery was considered just a branch of commerce), this intent, and the follow-through, was about as good as it got. It is why the Australian Aboriginal people, who were so completely defenceless because of the technology and cultural gap, fortunately survive in such numbers today. It is also why the monstrous charges of genocide are so duplicitous and vicious.
For my part, I shall celebrate Australia Day by paying a short visit to Bread St in London today, where Phillip was born, to pay my respects to one of the first great Australians, a pragmatic man who did his duty and thereby did so much to found a nation of liberty and prosperity. _________________ Two more flags before I die!

^Happy Aussie Day!
Whoops, my post was a bit out of sync. I was referring back to previous discussion.
I still read the goings on here when I can. Glad everyone seems to be going okay. _________________ In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.
