I was reading an article today online about building the perfect hamburger. OK, I'm weaning myself into being back at work. I should be fully there in a month or 11.

Anyway, this article, which I won't post for fear of giving such rubbish oxygen, actually had the temerity to suggest that when constructing a burger, you lay down the salad as the foundation on the bun before adding the meat. I mean, how utterly ridiculous is that, everyone knows how to build the perfect Burger, the meat pattie forms the foundation and you build upward from there, hot ingredients first then salad. This is essential for the both the structural integrity and the balance of taste.

My personal version of the content and method of construction goes like this. Ingredients in order of laying, building from the bottom up.

Bottom half of bun, lightly toasted and buttered.
Tomato Sauce
Burger patty
Fried onion
Worcestershire sauce
Cheese slice
fried bacon
fried egg
sliced tomato
sliced red onion
sliced beetroot
shredded iceberg lettuce
Mayonnaise
Top bun, lightly toasted and buttered.

That is how you build the perfect hamburger, none of this salad on the bottom garbage.

However, since it's clear that we have a diversity of opinions here in the VPT, I thought I should at least test to see if we had any poor deluded fools, eh I mean people who lay the salad first, present here.

So, vote early and vote often and feel free to share your build for the perfect burger. Personally I think pickles (as in pickled cucumber) has no place in any burger with pretentions to edibility, but I'm prepared to be challenged.

The lettuce will wilt with the heat of the burger. Dumb suggestion…and probably from a trolling vegan.

There is one rule to the perfect meal. At least one ingredient had parents.

No room for mayonaise or AOLI (which is basically a wankier version of the former) in any burger or sandwich of mine.

Sour dough roll please, the real thing, cooked properly, soft and fluffy

Don't need butter, king island beef patty, onion not drowned in oil, bacon, tomato, lettuce, touch of sea salt, maybe some pepper, top of the bun, yum!

I don't mind sweat child sauce, but if the meat is quality, you don't need it

Not a problem. My apple tree had parents. One parent was a Granny Smith, the other one a Pink Lady. Would you care for an apple, or maybe just an inch-thick slice cut from the trunk, grilled to a toasty golden-brown and almost big enough to overhang the plate? I'd offer you a small child lightly steamed in claret but her mother left me so she only has one parent now and wouldn't qualify.

You're on the iPad again aren't you?

Sweat Child Sauce? Sounds like something some would accuse Gina of having on her poached Dodo eggs at breakfast. Razz Wink Laughing

Roll, meat then tomato sauce on pattie, salad layers including egg & bacon. No mayo - destroys the said burger.

Worcester in the pattie if I'm making it & a hint of cumin (once told my brother I loved cewmin - he replied he lovied comin' too). Wink
