Update on Congo the Lab, looks like good news he has a few problems with his kidneys but the vet seems confident that they can fix him up and hopefully will be able to bring him home tomorrow with some antibiotics.
Our 12 year old Lab is missing him and is a bit confused about where he is!

That's great news!! Very Happy

My boy Congo the Lab, sadly didn't make it the vet found a tumour on or near his spleen that was extremely active and he couldn't be saved. They were all very sad as he was such a wonderful patient and wagged his tail until the end! Broken hearted today.

Thanks everyone, doesn't feel real as yet because he looked and acted like a puppy we would have thought that the older lad would go first. Still looking for him all the time. I won't lie it is bloody hard! We have all been there before and we will again but it is never easy!

Lost a dear and close family member last night. Leo our 15 year old labradoodle (size of a standard poodle) has gone to the great kennel in the sky. He was a beautiful boy but old age & a neurological condition where he lost his balance & would fall over meant he was no longer happy: rapid deterioration in the last 2 weeks.

Very placid boy, wouldn't hurt a fly (the cat might have a different opinion on this of course) Leo was bright. He once came upstairs took the doona off Mrs WPT's side of the bed, then walked downstairs as he needed to puke! ( He was outside during the day & slept downstairs at night (the bedrooms are upstairs)

He was big enough to once take a roast off the island bench & run outside with it. When he was a puppy he destroyed kids shoes & was boisterous but after 18-24 months Leo calmed right down for the remaining placid 13 years of being a friendly, gently loveable dog. Had him under voice-control - I spent hours with him when we first got him down the park & through repetition & reward trained him.

Taught him to jump the fence at the local park as in our group that I'd meet at the park one woman had a great dane who was not under her control & would pick on other dogs - so Leo was young, fast & could jump the fence to get away from the great dane. The owner was often off her head on speed & would take sex calls on her mobile so was not able to concentrate - the words "big boy" took on a variety of meanings when I'd walk past with Leo & she was talking to a customer....I digress

Leo had a lovely last meal - Mrs WPT bought a 1/2 roast chook for him with gravy. Nice way to go out. Mrs WPT, the oldest daughter & I went with him to vet last night to say our goodbye's.

Love you Leo.

Nice story about Leo, sounds like you gave him a good sendoff.

Must confess though that the bit about the woman, speed, sex calls and a great Dane did mess with my concentration a tad.

Oh honey, I'm so sorry, RIzp Leo,

15 is a really good age for a large dog, your love must have got him there.
Remember the good times, it makes it so worth it, the love of a dog is so very special, peace be with you all my friend. Xxxx

My eldest daughter was excited about her ultrasound today, but instead of finding out the sex of her baby, they found no heart beat Sad.
A sad day, especially when I'm 1000k's from home.
