Whoa, I googled that, (I got gnocchi first!) I'd thought you'd made that name up! You must read a lot of strange books!

(I did quote an online newspaper - but Gnostics have always been interesting)

Harold Bloom is one prominent & interesting Gnostic that comes to mind.

Yes a little Napoli sauce over some fresh Gnotics with some Parmesan cheese on top Wink

Hahahha

Thanks for not ridiculing me, appreciated xx

I like this description the best:

Deuteronomy 23:3 and 23:7 are pretty amusing as well. Very specifically lays out which forms of ethnic prejudice are okay and which ones aren't. Laughing

You guys have no idea how much of a relief it is for me now to be able to take these passages on face value and not have to listen to (or try to create) tortuous justifications for them.

Yep, God's a racist. Doesn't even give them an out, like if they improve something about their culture or try and lift themselves out of whatever the problem is. Nope, too bad and even your great x 8 grandchild is included too.

Like I said, even if I was a theist, then this God would be no God of mine.

All the stupid rules from the Bible make me think of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier when Kirk asks "What does God need with a Starship".

Did Jesus Christ marry Mary Magdalene and have children with her? Surely, youre thinking, thats the kind of sensationalist mumbo-jumbo you find only in the pages of fiction.
In fact, The Da Vinci Code, Dan Browns 2003 best-selling thriller, was hinged on that very premise: a secret bloodline had sprung from the union between Jesus and Mary.
But now the authors of a new book, The Lost Gospel, claim to have unearthed evidence of a manuscript which tells the story of Jesuss two sons and his marriage to Mary, one of his closest followers, who was at his crucifixion, burial and the discovery of his empty tomb.

Quote:
A new book based on an ancient manuscript claims Jesus Christ was not crucified. Instead, he married Mary Magdalene, and the couple had two children. Entitled The Lost Gospel, the book is based off a translation of an Aramaic manuscript found inside the British Library. It will be available Nov. 12, according to Amazon.com.

Professor Barrie Wilson and writer Simcha Jacobovici claim the text reveals secrets to Jesus family life, including his marriage to Mary Magdalene, the names of their two children, assassination attempts on both their lives and Jesus connection to powerful political figures in the Roman Empire.

Gathering dust in the British Library is a document that takes us into the missing years of Jesuss life, the book begins. According to the document that we uncovered, sometime during this period he became engaged, got married, had sexual relations and produced children. Before anyone gets his/her theological back up, keep in mind that we are not attacking anyones theology. We are reporting on text.

A lot of the apocrypha of that time period could be described generously as 'Bible fanfic', but this one sounds even more tenuous than most. No surprise that scholars "have studied it but disregarded it".

That's not to say that the Mary Magdalene theory is completely without merit. The claim that Jesus went through life without marrying or having children is almost certainly fictional, and it's not that far-fetched to think that one of the few women mentioned in the gospels might have been the one.

I think it is foolish to pay too much attention to theories like those just mentioned given our near-complete lack of knowledge about te istorical figure - knowledge so incomplete that we can't even be sure that he existed. Chances are, the "Jesus" we "know" is an amalgam of several figures from around that time, and our "knowledge" of "him" has in any case been filtered through a host of secondary sources, none of them entirely to be trusted. All we can say with certainty is that a fair number of people during the first couple of hundred years AD were strongly taken with the story, strongly enough to risk dishonour and persecution. Everything else is speculation.

(Not that there is anything wrong with speculation. Speculation can be a very good and useful thing, though less so in cases such as this one where there is no prospect of ever gaining anything by way of new knowledge. Speculation, in this case, leads nowhere and is fruitless. Compare with, say, speculation about quantum mechanics where speculation can and does lead to new avenues of empirical research and, eventually, to new and useful knowledge.)

TP, you have an extraordinary ability, just when I think I've got to know you well enough, to catch me completely by surprise. Maybe, after all, we should be married!

What did you think about this line?

I was sick, and I was in prison, and you came to Me.

The New Testament is pretty clear on how Christians should behave towards criminals. I'm not a Christian, but I mostly share those views.

As for refugees, I'm afraid we're a nation of goats. Luckily for us, hell isn't real.
