Old L Ron Hubbard
Went to the cupboard
to fetch his doggy a bone.
But when he bent over
Rover took over
Cos he had a bone of his own. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

So we have two "aussies" about to shot by a firing squad in Indonesia for being drug couriers.
As I have said before we have as much proof that this penalty doesn't work as a deterrent as we have it does, we just can't know. Maybe we would have double the amount of drug couriers if the death penalty wasn't on the table, a vague maybe is all can know as there is no way of knowing.
Brazil have all but damned Indonesia for killing one of their citizens, but would they be as harsh if Indonesia was their nearest neighbor? I'm sure our past two federal governments have been trying hard but just as we don't want Countries telling us how we run our Country who are we to tell others what to do.
Personally I think they knew the risks, they took the chance and now they'll pay the biggest price.
But They Knew This Was A Possibility All Along, if they got caught.

I suppose I agree with 1061, people gamble with their lives taking risks in other countries. You get caught you take the consequences.
I don't like the death penalty and would hate it to be here, feel sorry for their families and friends but they took the risk and lost. _________________ Cheers big ears |

It may seem difficult to feel sympathy for heroin traffickers, but it's important to remember that people like this are often near the bottom of the chain in the drug trade. They're not the James Packers of the crime world making hundreds of thousands off people's misery; they're the lackies (perhaps in some cases with a drug problem of their own) taking the risks and copping the consequences. They need to be caught and punished, of course, but they're not mere refuse to be tossed down the garbage chute; they're human beings.
Anyway, if you're against the death penalty, it doesn't matter who they are or what they've done: clearly, it is wrong for them to be executed. We can't control other countries' jurisdictions, but it's right that our government should use diplomatic resources to appeal for leniency. In the broader scheme of things, we should be working with international organisations to get all capital punishment stamped out wherever possible. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Talcum powder?
But seriously, if that is proven correct and that piece of excrement was prepared to sexually molest his own new born child and video it for profit, I vote to give him a rub down with a cheese grater and make him go swimming with some bull and tiger sharks.
Don't care if there's any deterrent value in that or not. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

So, you guys would be happy to kill and/or torture someone who is clearly mentally ill? Very sad (all of it).
At the very least, you'd want to know all the facts before pulling the switch. Was this even his idea, or was he a weak-minded individual goaded into the plan by an FBI agent seeking to entrap him? Do you know for a fact that he would have actually been able to follow through? Was he actually going to abuse his baby in some way, or would the images have been fairly mundane? I have no idea what gets baby-paedophiles off (or why they even exist), but considering how often I and my partner have to touch our baby's genitalia during changing and bathing, I'm not even sure what you could do. Perhaps I'm blessed with limited imagination.
Anyway, even if you were to give the very worst possible answer to all of those questions, you're still dealing with an individual with an extraordinarily sick mind who needs some pretty serious help. I hope he can somehow be successfully rehabilitated. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |
