Just heartbreaking. This will play into the hands of Islamic extremists, anti-Muslim racists and government authoritarians alike. Hope the situation is resolved peacefully and the hostages are rescued, but otherwise the damage is done.

Muslims may as well start packing and book flights out of Australia as Murdoch and Sky will have a field day. Abbott would be hoping for deaths so he gets a poll boost. |

It's not the time to discuss this politically speaking so I'll just say that my thoughts and prayers are with the hostages and hopefully this doesn't result in fatalities which would be disastrous.
Hopefully this is resolved before it gets any worse but it's concerning that a measly cafe in Sydney has been targeted in this way. To me it's almost like a a death wish from the offender(s).

The Grand Mufti has just denounced the action in part and in whole as a Criminal action that has nothing to do with their faith.
Reports that many are removing their head coverings.
This is Australia and it will get ugly. |

If this was in down town New York, it would have been over by now. The idiots would be dead and possible civilians which of course would be collateral damage.
This was planned for maximum exposure, across from channel 7. Reminds me of the movie with Denzel Washington, "The Siege". |
