Post subject: Irresponsible to keep Levi says Brad Scott
|
Reading notes from SEN interveiw Brad said "It would have been irresposible of us
to keep Levi given the offers coming from Western Bulldogs and Collingwood.
We would have loved to keep Levi but with our number of mids at club matching the
offers would have distorted our TTP (total player payments)
After lean years in 2012 and 2013 in early 2014 we offered Levi a contract but as 2014
evolved his season went thru the roof averaging 25 possesions in 22 games plus average
4 inside 50,s and 4 inside clearances a game all going toward landing one vote short of
club B and F.
Responsible decision by us i think and by virtue of that history fully capable of being in
Round one 22 selected _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

Well we have handed him the same contract we offered Dale Thomas.
Here we are hoping he isnt playing in a forward pocket for our VFL side.
But based on recent recruiting coups - who can be sure? |

What Scott dosent say is that they offered Higgins the exact contract that would have kept Levi.
Actually, Levi would have taken less.
They were shocked when they lost him, he was deserving of a better deal and while we paid a little more than what they could have paid to keep him it was market worth given the dogs were into him as well.
So it comes down to a choice between Levi and Higgins................

Crap call by Scott.
Kangas brought in Higgins and Waite. Then traded Levi to us.
They could have kept him. (Did he want out? Was money the issue?).
When you think about the fact they've kept Daniel "Mr Potential" Wells on this long, you have to ask how irresponsible they've really been. They've also held onto 31 year old Firrito.
In recent years, they've let Gibson and Hale go to Hawthorn and they have not been aggressive enough in brining in players. (Could make a case for Dal Santo, but he is 30 after all).
Hansen never truly reached his potential. A #3 draft pick who is now 26.
Bastinac and Ziebell are still young at 23. Both need to keep improving.
Captain Swallow needs to lift. I know he's had a few injury set backs, but as Captain, he needs to be better. (I know he's decent, but he isn't in the class of other captains around the league).
Besides, Scott should be talking about his 2015 campaign rather than past players. Sounds like he'd holding a grudge.
It's just a shame that we couldn't get Aaron Mullett as well. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

MJ spot on. Ultimately it has come down to higgins over greenwood but the commitment to higgins was long before and there was always an offer on the table to levi and it was bumped twice.
North are raising high for a 2 year assault and why wouldnt u?
Greenwood chose coin and security over a fair chance for GF action soon.
Presti35 did kekovic date your sister? North are in amazing shape. Hansen swallow and wells are guns. |

My interest in Levi,s arrival at Collingwood is not what Scott said or North were
engineering nor our ammount of payment .
It is what he can bring to the sucsess of the team and assist in our rise back into
the eight

Irresponsible taking the two most infuriating players in the AFL:

I am confident Levi will be a great addition to out midfield and will be within the top 6 of our best and fairest at year end. Despite the negativity of some he will be a real asset to our midfield. _________________ Now Retired - Every Day Is A Saturday |

North Melbourne are just bitter that Greenwood ditched them and joined a better club!
Brad Scott's an imbecile in saying that it would have been "irresponsible" in keeping Greenwood, but what he forgets to add is that North Melbourne blew their salary cap on injury or suspension-prone players in Higgins and Waite thinking that they're going to win a Premiership sooner rather than later even though they're way off the mark in my opinion. North has one of the oldest lists in the league and when the likes of Harvey, Petrie, Wells, Dal Santo and Waite all start declining they'll become an irrelevant rabble again.
Reading some of the comments on North Melbourne's BigFooty board I can't stop laughing at how much they hate Levi at the moment and they're re-writing history by saying he was never that good and that he's going to a club that will languish in the bottom 8 for many years to come. I wouldn't be surprised if in the immediate future we languish in the bottom 8 but in the long-term we'll be ahead of North Melbourne for many more years to come and Levi will have the last laugh.
We've recruited a player that finished equal second at a Best and Fairest for a club that ended up making the top 4 this year. North fans think Levi will struggle because of the job and financial security he has now but I think he's finally made it as a footballer after this year's breakthrough and he'll be an asset to this side with the hardness that was needed and we needed an inside midfielder which Greenwood fits the criteria in.
North Melbourne's loss is our gain and I couldn't be more pleased about that! _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023
