Thanks everyone for all your condolences.

As the days go by, it don't get any easier.

I turned around and looked towards Bucks as I left the Vet's room after she'd gone and my last words to her was....

"See ya Bucks... Go Pies!"

Awww, poor doggie.

I lost my oldest Basenji earlier this year, he was 16, the kids especially my 12o daughter at the time took it the hardest by far.
Thankfully, we have another 2 Basenjis that helped lift & keep her spirits up.

We cremated the old fella & now his ashes are resting on our mantle in a beautiful Rosewood box with a photo insert & his collar/tags next to it.
My 6yo son greets him with a good morning & good night every day!

thinking of you mate, never easy losing a furbub.

out of the mouths of Babes:
Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners; Ron, his wife, Lisa, and their little boy, Shane were all very attached to Belker and they were hoping for a miracle. I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer.
I told the family there were no miracles left for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home. As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for the four-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt Shane could learn something from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on.

Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away. The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, "I know why." Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me - I'd never heard a more comforting explanation.

He said, "Everybody is born so that they can learn how to live a good life - like loving everybody and being nice, right?" The four-year-old continued, "Well, animals already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long."

Clemo, sorry to hear about your loss man.

I lost my Max about 13yrs ago and I haven't had a dog since. It still breaks my heart as I can still hear his yelp - His bark sounded like a yelp.

Dogs truly are a mans best friend.

I was up in the nsw outback last weekend and I came across
a drover who had 30 dogs!
Most were kelpies or border collie crosses.
An amazing sight!
I love dogs and have had a number in my 60 years.
All dogs have completely different personalities and when
one dies you need to get another one when you decide the time is right.
Or like the drover get a few dozen!
