I'm not sure whether we had a great win tonight.
I was convinced that last years draft was excellent.
Would not have a clue about this years picks.
I would have gone for Wright before our pick.
Can someone convince me that our choices were good?

Well, I can only go on what much better judges than me say about De Goey & Maynard. And those judges are very positive about both of them. I suppose the jury is out on Goodyear, but at 48, the player is always going to have a few more faults to iron out.

Keep in mind that Maynard was actually our third pick. De Goey, Moore & Maynard is a good night's work, I think.

The Hughes news killed it for me (as I'm sure it did for many), my mind is elsewhere at present.

Yep, it certainly dampened the experience tonight. Still a bit numb from the devastating news.

De Goey = Beams, more or less. It will be interesting to see how that works out in, say, five years time. Of course, the steak knife might yet turn into something - he's big, young and quick, so he has to be a possibility - but De Goey is the main chance.

I take it you're referring to young "Quentin" Wink

Moore is a bargain, anyway you toss it.

DeGoey Looks a complete mid sized player type. Hard, marking, skills are all there.

Maynard & Goodyear are similar, but are not as good.

Time only will tell.

I find it interesting that we recruited no talls, other than Moore. Moore could be backman. I'm concerned that we don't have any tall forwards coming through our system. Gault is it and as a Rookie, it's likely he will only be a role player, not a 200 gamer.

I'm sure Hine has done his magic, but I think our list is unbalanced with a lack of tall forwards coming through to support and then replace Cloke in 4-5 years.

Talking to my brother who I consider
a good judge of football - he was very upbeat.
Said the players were big bodied hard
nuts who will play in the Hawthorn style.
And Hawthorn are the bench mark at the moment.

For list management I would of gone for Write but just as a forward and not a ruck/forward. maybe he was to talll without the pack busting ability you need to go with endurance and speed, like McCartin. So then we take the best available tuff all rounders and with this what I'm hoping for the most, as the picks suggest so would dkka is that they have the ability to quickly play the game on their terms by winning contested ball, distribute the pill to advantage with skill and good decisions when under the pump.
I'm stoked we picked big bodied players who like the tuff stuff, just stoked.

Was it a win? Htf could anyone possibly answer that? You want convincing 3 hours after the kids have been drafted? Are you serious?

It is not whether they will be great. No one knows.
It is whether we got the right type of player.

I'd argue five seasons is where we can fully determine it but three seasons would give us a good early indication if the draft was a success or not.
