Post subject: Which players will be under the pump? | |
|
Now we've selected 3 more midsized mid/forward/defenders, in addition to Moore, Crisp, Greenwood, Karnezis and Varcoe, I'm wondering which of our existing players are likely to be under the most pressure to hold their spots in the team. Remember we also have Freeman and Sharenberg to debut as well.
Jessie White - needs to stand up and deliver, now that we have Moore, Reid and the expected improvement from Witts and Grundy.
Blair, Dwyer and Thomas - will need to lift considerably to hold their spots with our newer, bigger bodied mids.
Fasolo - needs to play consistently good football, or he'll lose his spot to Karnezis and/or Crisp.
I wish all these players well, but now we have a far greater depth of talent, players who don't perform consistently will be under enormous pressure to hold their spots. |

I didn't include him because I've already crossed him off my list. He should play out most of his final year with us in the ressies. |

Interesting assessment. White - Agreed. Blair - If he starts the year poorly no doubt he will be in trouble. If he starts well I don't think it will be make or break for him as he's a known quantity to the coaches.
Disagree on Dwyer but we can agree to disagree. Thomas has the talent but was disappointing last year. Doubt we would cut him loose even if he had a bad year. Fas - agreed. Probably given a little slack due to injury.
Two to add from left field - Ben Reid and Nate Brown - both from an injury perspective. If Reid cannot stay on the park for the majority of this year I think there would have to be questions raised about keeping him. Brown.. he seems to split people, you either love him or dislike him! Doesn't ever seem to do a lot wrong but it painfully slow and if he gets injured again I can't help but feel he's another one that they would look at closely.
Big trav surely has to be under the pump after the year he had last year.
I should add that none of the players I have included above are done with any consideration of their contract status! Just my thoughts. _________________ Side By Side Forever |

I would start by telling White he has two years to make it happen.
Sinclair needs to improve his disposal and this year is it.
Blair I would give two years to start influencing games much more.
Young could prove a few people wrong this year.
The big one for me is Witts!! He can not have another Witts sort of a year. If he fails this year then I would look elsewhere, and recruit a mature age ruckman. _________________ Carpe diem quam minimum credula postero. |

I thought Witts had a good year in 2014.
Better than the highly touted Grundy. Witts was one of the pleasing parts of the 2014 season. _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |

For the state of the game I pick macca. Two knee recos won't help his cause either. _________________ no second chances |

I know what you are saying, he did play well but he cant afford to have anything less than last year.
His graph has to go upwards still. Bit harsh maybe, but he has had time in the system now. _________________ Carpe diem quam minimum credula postero. |

Witts was named the Under-23 All Australian ruck man. Impressive acknowledgement from outsiders. He took a huge step last year. Great time trial coming back too. |

This man White is a quite serviceable second ruckman, similar to Lynch and Leigh Brown (Brown without the terrifying of opposition) therefore he is like Macaffer, one of those spare parts you have lying around. He can kick the odd goal, but he has not as yet imposed himself on a contest.
So I would be reluctant in this time of transition to get rid of him. People have lamented the absence of a third ruckman if something happens to Witts or the Samurai, but with Jessie, you have a reasonable insurance policy |
