Sounds like a similar type to Cavka apart from kicking ability.

Cavka kicked at over 61% efficiency through the TAC competition.

Not sure why we passed on him when so strongly linked.

Anyway best of luck to Matthew and welcome to Collingwood.

^ I mean who was the first one who (a) came to the club not knowing how to kick and (b) we successfully taught the art?

I could mention BJ, who was a shocker during his early career and no better through the middle years, but transformed his efficacy (if not his ungainly style) and became one of the most reliable kicks going around, but I suspect that he mostly taught himself.

Welcome to Collingwood Matthew Smile

I can't say I'm overly impressed with Matthew in some aspects of his game but his in and under groundwork was impressive though and he has a good efficiency handball wise but he'll need to work on his kicking. If Hine believes he's worth it then so be it!

Snoop's take...

yeah i had him going early in the rookie though as thought couple of areas he was probably behind but at that pick its getting pretty hard to pick them

quick, hard and goes well around the stoppages but his ball use has been a bit iffy when I have seen him but maybe the 3-4 games I saw weren't representative.

...and for what it's worth, Knightmare as well:

Goodyear is useful. It's against the odds he makes it but generally that is the case with the mid draft guys. The positives are his hardness inside as a guy who can win it inside but then also has some explosion by position with some pace. Disposal efficiency needs to improve, seems really rushed and pressured much of the time with ball in hand which is the major issue but if he cleans that up then he has an opportunity to develop given that ball winning ability and burst of acceleration.

I am a bit disappointed that we didn't go for Tom Langdon's younger brother Ed, who went to Fremantle six picks later. Still, Goodyear's highlights tape is encouraging. If the majority of our players avoid injury Matthew will spend this year in the VFL, where hopefully he will be taught how to kick straight even when under pressure.

Looks incredibly fast. With McCrae to assist him with his disposal efficiency we may well have picked a good one. The highlight reel coming out of the centre was at pace was quite pleasing to watch.
