Quote:
Collingwood have revealed an ambitious long-term plan to build their own stadium and have already explored options for a new ground as the club announced another year of multimillion-dollar profits.

With limits on where and how profits can be spent on their players and football department, and with the club's newly expanded home facilities on the Yarra almost complete, the Magpies are canvassing options for further investment in the club. One possibility in the medium to long term is to copy the big European soccer clubs that buttress their financial futures by owning their own stadiums.

Gee I hope this happens in my lifetime. Wonder if we'll get as much govt assistance as Geelong has?

Having said that let me say this:

Wasn't there a mention about Collingwood looking at setting something up in downtown Melton not too long ago?

Now this, this right here, this will have me coming back to the footy! Hell, crowd-fund the damn thing if need be. I'd be happy to pay a membership fee of $12.50+ to raise $1M to get the ball rolling...

DO. IT.

We don't want a far flung suburb as the
home to the magpies.
It doesn't make sense to have a newly completed
football admin and training complex and a separate stadium.
If we developed our training ground into a boutique
30 to 35 thousand stadium or goses( not sure of the spelling) paddock
then that makes sense.
But you are looking at probably many tens
if not hundreds of million dollars.
The problem is the MCG is too big for a number of magpie
games.
A smaller ground would enhance our fan experience.

Vic Park has been ruled out--is that right???
Would we venture too far out of the burbs i wonder
Or buy land and build from scratch
Roofed in be good for off season revenue ,concerts or even cricket ODI,s

I'm no expert, but we'd need a 50-60,000 capacity venue to make it worthwhile. I reckon you'd need a minimum of $100 million (probably twice that amount) to build that. That's a lot of crowd funding. Rolling Eyes

Thats cool. We could also follow the Barcelona model and allow members to become shareholders and own a part of the club. A great way to raise the funds to build the stadium.
