Around 10000 only at the MCG last night
for the ODI against South Africa.
Would never have happened a decade or
two ago.
Too high prices, a confusing schedule and
the nanny state behaviour code for patrons
has killed the spectacle.
It is the same in the AFL.
Kill the fans, Kill the game.
People now more than ever watch the sport
on TV.
Except soccer is doing well with the fans. _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

Not for long if you keep getting idiotic behaviour like this:
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/law-order/woman-and-boy-burnt-by-flare-at-aleague-match-at-etihad-stadium/story-fni0fee2-1227131574417
"A WOMAN and boy were burnt with a marine flare at last night’s A-League soccer.
The pair were hurt during the Melbourne Victory-Brisbane Roar game at Etihad Stadium.
Police are concerned at an increase in the use of flares at major soccer fixtures this season.
A woman aged in her 20s and a 12-year-old boy were injured when the flares were let off in the second half.
Two teenage boys have been arrested."
As usual, it will be the stupid behaviour of a minority that will spoil it for everyone else. _________________ If you are foolish enough to be contented, don't show it, but just grumble with the rest. - Jerome K Jerome |

It is still November after all regarding the cricket scheduling and I don't believe people really get into the cricket until December when the year is coming to an end and people are off work during that time of the year.
Also playing ODI's in Australia seems to be more of a tradition in January and February rather than November which I consider a little unusual personally. I also sense that corruption of cricket over the years may have led to some disillusionment amongst cricket supporters and the decline in crowd numbers. We'll know if this is the case when December and January arise. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023 | |

There's also way too much cricket, much which means very little, what with one dayers, 20/20, and that 'club' 20/20 rubbish. Corporate greed kills sport, just as it does music. |

What is it with [snip], flares and soccer? Why do these imbeciles feel the need to do this? No other sport is inflicted with flare firing tools.
Other than that, I don't think the poor showing for the cricket says much more than people aren't interested in Cricket in November and 50 over cricket is losing it's appeal.
20/20 is going well and Test Cricket in Australia is alive and well, but 50 over cricket needs to be scheduled properly if they're going to get a crowd.
Soccer on the other hand seems to be getting a few people along to watch, but there's still not enough broad interest to get a larger than pitiful media deal. Still a tip of a sport for mine, wouldn't cross the road to watch it for free. |

Reserved seating, I believe, plays a big part as well. The days of eciding with your mates from work or school to go to the cricket in the afternoon or tomorrow are dead. Now you must plan ahead, collect the money from everyone or pay for all tickets yourself, and hope people can still go on the day.
Though with 10000 people there it wouldn't have posed an issue for this game.
I do think ridiculous policing of crowd behaviour(how do beach balls hurt anyone) pricing and scheduling play the largest part in reduced crowd numbers. |

They also could have marketed it a bit better, I didn't know the game was on til I heard on MMM that St Africa had lost an early wicket. |

They should move cricket from the MCG to a suburbs ground, like Box Hill Hawks oval. _________________ Fighting against the objectification of woman. |

That would work wonders for the anti drinking brigade. 200 would go but they could all hold hands and safely walk to laburnum station after the game. _________________ Annoying opposition supporters since 1967. |

Cricket on a work day is a terrible time for cricket.
Then I've seen online polls with people saying they didn't know it was on.
Honestly, I wouldn't be going to a cricket game after work on a Friday. |

agreed, there is so much meaningless cricket.
for me, the advent of the ipl triggered the beginning of the decline in cricket as i knew and liked it. we have also seen a big decline in interest of the state based level and only the diehards would know what was going on. perhaps it could just be we are getting older and our interests are now diverted.
on friday, i preferred to watch a game of soccer rather than the cricket. i never thought this would happen to me. i used to watch every game but now can no longer give a stuff about our national team. _________________ Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle. |
