Mason Cox turns out to be an absolute gun!!
Well ahead of schedule in his development apparently.
Well worth the punt I reckon. If it works it's the biggest bonus of all time. If not we've lost nothing.
Plenty of other clubs were keen so he must have something. Even if he could just take the bounces and feed our mids it'd be great. If he can catch a ball he'd be a dangerous resting forward. His height will go a long way to covering other deficiencies.
Not getting ahead of myself. Just hoping it could be a gamble that pays. _________________ 'Collingwood are the Bradmans of Football'

Yes that would be good if our American recruit fires up
Word coming out of Westpac is he is progressing better
than they expected
A bit of time in VFL and who knows
A back up for Witts & Grundy will be good
Those young ruck are on course to be guns _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

You don't pass on free hits, his salary isn't included in the cap and he's probably the best non AFL athlete available, will never be anything more than a Ruckman though IMO, and even that's a stretch.
Makes my blood boil we haven't hired a full time ruck coach yet. _________________ Defender...........

With his speed off the mark and reach he could be an impossible to beat leading forward. Assuming he can catch. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

And that's going to be a big if, I'm sure he can mark over head like any basket baller, but it's an entirely different scenario running at full speed towards a Stiff pass marking at full stretch, with heat coming from behind. _________________ Defender...........

The marking is less of an issue than learning what to do with the ball once he marks it. |

Can't remember which one of the coaches said it but basically said he was a natural at marking, particularly grabbing the ball at the highest point was something he instinctively does. With his height and leap, ain't nobody going to be spoiling a ball on the lead.
I'm with whoever suggested that we get a full time ruck coach. Since we're bringing people back home, how about a phone call to Monky! |

Does that mean we play Witts as a ruck-rover?😊 or Grundy the in and under inside mid ( reckon he would do it ) Imagine Selwood being monstered! The height factor would have most sides jumping for the heavens hoping to get their hands on the pill. Could be the master plan to get the ball out of ruck contests. Looking forward to Cox's development, hope we get great value from this international rookie. |

We haven't had much luck with Cox in the past. Shannon was a flop. Hoping this Cox will rise to the challenge. |

I too have great hopes that we may have found a great talent in Mason Cox but to adjust to a game so different to anything he has ever played before will take time.
I think the key will be to determine how well he copes with the physical battering a big man's game is exposed to at VFL and AFL level. You need to be tough to play at that level as a big marking forward.
I notice that Brody Grundy seems to have put on a bit of bulk around the arms and shoulders this year. Be interesting to see if he can run out games in 2015. Conversely Jarrad Witts seems to have lost size and looks like a tall whippet. Clearly Witts is working hard to increase his mobility and running stamina. I hope he is still able to maintain his body strength to be able to monster opposition rucks in 2015. I have great hopes for these two young ruckmen to provide Collingwood with enormous drive in 2015. _________________ Collingwood Domination. Envy of the Nation! |
