The whole "death cult" thing is a way of focusing on ISIS in isolation without bringing in the fact that they're Islamic extremists.

The conflict has reached out to Australia, with at least 60 Australians fighting with ISIL and other terrorist groups and another 100 or so supporting these Islamic extremists.

I can't help but be impressed with your total grasp of the Tony Abbott "say one thing, but mean another" school of rhetoric!!!
Bravo!!! |
Thanks. Looks like you and Abbott are buds too.
Quote: | Australian PM says he'll now use Daesh instead of Isil for 'death cult' – but why?
Tony Abbott says the new name deprives the group of legitimacy, but why do its members hate it and what makes naming them so complicated? |

Barry O is still using Death Cult.
Quote: | President Barack Obama has denounced Isis as a “brutal, vicious death cult” that was involved in unspeakable acts of barbarism in the name of religion. |

he fact that a word may slip through on odd occasions doesn't underplay the fact that Western Leaders (Abbott included) are deliberately trying to down play the religious link by painting IS as an aberration that should not reflect on the average Mulsim. Pretty much the same as what David is doing in here, _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Whatever you call them, they're a classy pack of cnuts
Quote: | ISLAMIC State militants fed a distraught woman searching for her kidnapped son some meat and rice — and then told her she had just eaten her son, according to a British man who joined the fight against IS.
Yasir Abdulla, 36, of Yorkshire left his wife and four kids to battle the maniacal extremists in his Kurdish homeland, The Sun reported.
“I hate IS because of what happened to an old Kurdish woman from a nearby tribe,” he said. “Her son was captured by IS fighters and taken as a prisoner to Mosul.
“She was determined to find her son and went to IS headquarters and asked to see him.”
He said the thugs told her to rest after her long journey and offered her the food before taking her to her son.
“They brought her cups of tea and fed her a meal of cooked meat, rice and soup. She thought they were kind,” he said.
“But they had killed him and chopped him up and after she finished the meal and asked to see her son they laughed and said: ‘You’ve just eaten him,’” Abdulla told The Sun. |

Thus proving, unequivocally, that genocidal maniacs are a bad thing. Who'd have thunk that?

^ bit of an old story that one. Shakespeare put it in a play called Titus Andronicus. Though I'd put nothing past ISIL except for life drawing classes of the Prophet, this seems pretty weakly corroborated. Who knows if it happened. _________________ Two more flags before I die! |

I read this story last week in other newspapers. However I'm not sure how true and reliable it is but if it is true that's pure evil! _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023

Hacking a poor grieving Syrian peasant woman's phone is Ruperts style but in this case it's probably just a run of the mill News Corp plagiary of Homer's The Iliad!
A News Corp journo with a passable knowledge of the ancient classics?
That is a NEWS story!
...
Atreus learned of his wife's adultery and decided to seek revenge for it. He invited Thyestes to return and be reconciled with him. He killed Thyestes' sons, cut them up, and cooked everything except their hands and feet. Then he served this meat at a banquet in Thyestes' honor. After Thyestes had finished eating, Atreus produced the hands and feet, taunted his brother with them, and banished him once more.

In more illuminating news than the dysfunctions of deranged cults and gangsters, the need to continually affirm one's moral standing by crapping on and on about the most extreme ills of the earth—when everyone already agrees—belies a lot more than just "concern" after a while.
Both the left and the right do this with different evils, but the psychiatry is pretty much the same. _________________ In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.

I think you're underestimating people's understanding on the situation in Nigeria Morrigu and because it doesn't necessarily involve westerners doesn't mean that people are not horrified by what they're seeing over there.
Most people are aware of what Boko Haram has been doing in this part of the world for a number of years now and like ISIS they're a dangerous Sunni jihadist group with similar ideals and ambitions. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023

^ It's true though that Africa gets very little coverage in the Australian media, and when it does it tends to get shoved down in a little sidebar on page 46. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

I suppose in terms of front page content you're right but I still see articles pop up on Boko Haram in Australia quite frequently but not as frequent as articles relating to the Middle East however.
It's all relative and the same happened with ISIS which got little coverage until June last year when the Northern Iraq offensive occurred but the problems were persistent beforehand but weren't frequently reported on. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023
