Post subject: Beams reason for leaving | |
|
Press conference here http://www.lions.com.au/video/2014-10-24/dayne-beams-press-confernece. It's just over 10 minutes, I recommend watching it all.
Just for the record, he was asked whether he would have looked to leave collingwood if it wasn't for the family issues, he had a one word response, "No"
When the journo sought to clarify and asked, "so the only reason you left was family (paraphrased) " he said "Yes"
End discussion about Beams leaving because he couldn't get on with Bucks?
He even says how he discussed with Bucks about not going to the Copeland and his reasons for it, and that Bucks was fine.
Overall, I'd say class performance. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

I don't blame Beams leaving beause of his Father having Cancer.
It was the Sneaky Lions who got him Signed During the Season and then Being Pricks to us during the Trade Period _________________ I am Da Man |

I felt the same, just gutted that Beamer has left. Massive loss for Collingwood in the short term. But like others, we move on.
Thanks, Stui, for the link.........'twas a good interview.

Could hardly have picked a worse player to lose except maybe Steelo.(given that the captain would never have left) It's gonna suck seeing him play against us, and wasn't it nice of the AFL to make it round 1?! No way our new guys will have found their feet by then. I truly hate seeing our guys in other jumpers, it still makes me feel slightly ill seeing Heater and Daisy in stupid gurnseys, especially the latter who still looks uncomfortable after 20 games in that hated jumper
Still, I really wonder why people have the idea that if an AFL identity says something in an interview it has to be true. It really isn't a fool proof way to learn the truth! _________________ "If at first you dont succeed...

Glad to see his freuadian slip "we" when talking about the Pies. Might be reading too much into it, but it shows me he still thinks of himself as a Collingwood player which of course will probably change once the season commences.
Adding the big grin when asked about the Brions flag chances as opposed to ours, he had to say Brisbane were closer but it seemed obvious he probably thinks the opposite. |

Just so. It is much more sensible to learn the truth from posts on Nick's Collingwood BBS; and if you ever see the same thing posted upwards of 800 times from the same Nickster, then it is the absolute truth and must not be questioned in any way, ever. _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |

I am indifferent to Beams now. I don't care whether he was telling the truth or not. His reasons for leaving are a combination of family and money, in proportions that cannot be determined. Had he genuinely wished to stay with the Pies, a solution could have been found. Clearly, that was not the case.
I agree with Buckley: we are not concerned about those who no longer wish to play for the Black and White.
We move on now, and to be honest I am really starting to warm to what we have acquired in the place of Beams and H.
I think Greenwood will be harder in than Beams. Definitely not as great a player overall, but one who could genuinely blossom into a real cracker for us.
I have also recently read a comment from a Geelong supporter who is really upset about Varcoe leaving Geelong. He said that during all of 2014, Geelong played Travis in the wrong position (in defence) instead of playing him where he is at his best, as a crumbing forward. He is devastated that Varcoe is leaving Geelong.
And finally there is the big body of Crisp. He is not proven yet, but he is fast and is tall...just what we need in our midfield. His potential is unknown, but his physical attributes are exactly what we require. His last 6 AFL games show that he has potential to burn. Brions did not want to give him up.
At the time, I thought the deal we achieved was barely equality, but I am now starting to think that we have not done so badly after all.
There is real scope, flexibility and depth now that didn't exist before.
My main concern now is the forward line.
Do we persist with Jesse White? Do we try Corey Gault? Or do we go small, a la Port Adelaide, with small, fast crumbing forwards such as Varcoe and potentially Sinclair? I would prefer Ben Reid in the back line where he is at his best as an All Australian CHB, but then how do we structure our forward line? |
