...and a few extra sweeteners which assist them more than us that promote the game over there. It is still a long way off the $500,000 Eddie demanded.

Quote: | COLLINGWOOD has called for an industry-wide discussion on AFL contracts after releasing Rodney Eade for a cash payment and other sweeteners from the Gold Coast.
The Magpies finally relented after broking a deal with the Suns, allowing them to parade Eade on the Gold Coast in an official unveiling on Friday.
A figure believed to be $20,000 will be paid by the Suns but it is only part of a complex arrangement between the two clubs.
Pies chief executive Gary Pert told the Herald Sun the Suns had agreed to a series of initiatives which would help Collingwood supporters on the Gold Coast when they travel to watch the Round 8 Metricon Stadium game.
Pies members might gain exclusive access to their own Pies-friendly zone of Metricon Stadium and help in promoting the game in general in the state. |

Eddie was on the radio this morning saying that the figures quoted had no relationship to the agreement and that the agreement was confidential. It was never an issue of stooping Eade from taking up the coaching role but for Collingwood to be given some consideration in the process. As none of us know the contents of the agreement (sheer speculation does not count) we are not in a position to discuss the issue with any validity.
I am sure there is something in it to the benefit to the club and / or our members. |

Eddie continues to make noise & pound his chest but the reality is over the past few years we continue to lose club resources for little return. |

So out of interest, how would you have done things differently?
Certainly if you are critical of how the club is managed you must have a viable & better alternative. |

I've never seen people take comments made by sporting administrators/athletes in the media more literally than those on this forum.
Of course we weren't going to get 500k, and Eddie probably knew that. Given that there was already a precedent with the Port Adelaide situation it was always likely we were going to get the same result.
There's rumblings now though that Eddie is going to be part of a group of administrators who are going to attempt to change the rules around poaching of coaching and when you can do ti, so him making a big song and dance of it will probably help serve that cause. |

God, the way some posters on here were talking about Eade you'd think we'd be paying $20,000 to get rid of him. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

My impression this year is that a lot of the GC members are Collingwood supporters who take out memberships so they can go to the game. the corporate area is extremely comfortable. They were obviously expecting hordes of toothless supporters given the security overkill. Hopefully a stronger presence will make it easier for the Pies to poach their personnel! |

Ed managed to abolish the ridiculous salary cap for the Brisbane Bears, after all the handouts from Wayne "Fairy Godfather" Jackson. This stopped the juggernaut in its tracks. It is the first time that a Collingwood president has obtained a beneficence from the cardinals in living memory.

It's not my job to manage the club, but it doesn't take a genius to notice that a lot of experience (players, coaches & admin) have been lost in the past 2 years.
If that doesn't alarm you then fine. |

To be honest anything was given was a bonus. I don't think we deserve anything and I would hope if we poach someone we wouldn't have to pay compensation. oh well...
Eade's role to me, kinda reminded me of this guy
